I get great satisfaction from selecting and working wood. To me it is one of our most beautiful and versatile resources, and I love all of its varieties, shapes and sizes. I trained in furniture and cabinetmaking with Jonathan Markovitz Furniture near Wantage in Oxfordshire, where I learnt what it takes to reach excellence in craftsmanship. The importance of precision and planning in the making were core in this, whilst learning to understand and work wood itself. Simultaneously I developed my ability to challenge and refine designs, to push myself creatively whilst understanding and working within practical limitations.

What is Solid Wood? Wood is commonly used to make furniture, but did you know that almost any type of wood can be used to construct home furniture. Some woods are classed as soft woods like Pine, Cedar and Spruce. These softwoods are still ideal for furniture makers, the finished product tends to be less expensive than the equivalent hardwood product. Hardwoods come from trees that grow slower making them a denser wood. These hardwoods are excellent for providing a cabinetmaker with a material that will withstand years of wear and use.

You can come to us with even the vaguest of ideas and we'll help you flesh it out. Expect to pay a fair bit more than the prices of our standard products, and be prepared to wait a while. A minor alteration to an existing design might take 10 weeks, where a full scale design and build of a new piece could take several months.
