We also undertake architectural joinery projects requiring bespoke design and construction. At Boxwood Cabinetmakers we combine build and design skills to offer real choice. We spend time listening to clients about their design ideas and our knowledge of timbers, construction and finishing can help bring ideas to fruition.
Boxwood Cabinetmakers was established by Steve Jones. A passion for furniture design and fine craftsmanship was key in the formation of the company. Steve Jones has worked with wood for twenty five years. After serving an apprenticeship he worked as a cabinetmaker in the north of England, before pursuing his passion for stringed musical instruments and studying luthiery. In 1999 Steve formed JonesKendall, makers of hand-built acoustic instruments, with Colin Kendall. The company made instruments for several well-known guitarists and enjoyed an enviable reputation in the industry (Visit www.colinkendallguitars.co.uk for more information).
We build bespoke kitchens or units and accessories to enhance an existing kitchen. Our kitchens are built in the workshop as rigid frames in hardwood or hard-wearing materials and supplied in a range of finishes, including lacquer, hand-painted or wax-oil. We supply rigid-framed kitchens from the Howdens range. Factory-built rigid-framed kitchens provide a longer-lasting solution to flat-packed kitchens and can be supplied and fitted at competitve prices. We also supply doors and accessories for existing kitchens.
Boxwood Cabinetmakers build furniture in a range of styles that echo our belief in functionality, clean lines and high quality of construction. The styles defined below, along with the examples on the following pages, are intended as a guide to the type of work we undertake. Every piece we build is individually hand-crafted. Inspired by the Arts + Crafts movement, which flourished in Europe and America in the late 19th and early 20th Century, we build furniture following the design ideals of beauty, harmony and simplicity.
We supply and fit a range of hardwood floors of the highest quality. All floor types are supplied at 20mm thick in any width or as a 15 mm thick overlay floor up to 140mm wide. A micro bevelled edge is available as a no-cost option on all floors unless otherwise stated. A rustic grade of oak with large knots, splits and checks. Boards are hand distressed and then fumed to give a very aged and traditional colour and appearance. Available in widths of 185 and 200mm, 20mm thick. Board lengths generally 2-2.5m with some shorter boards.
Boxwood Cabinetmakers believe form and function go hand in hand. Our furniture combines traditional build techniques with contemporary design to integrate seamlessly with other furniture in a room, fitted or freestanding. The portfolio below represents a selection of the work we have undertaken.
We have built a range of furniture and architectural pieces for our clients. These have included Edwardian and Georgian pieces, contemporary designs based on our clients' ideas, and both commercial and private projects such as staircases, doors and mantels all manufactured in our workshop. We offer a full design service for all scales of work.
