I specialise in fine furniture restoration, conservation and repair. I restore all types of furniture from antique to mid century, large and small, using traditional craftsmanship skills, techniques and materials. My services include cabinetmaking, french polishing, veneering, marquetry, turning, carving and traditional upholstery, rush and cane seating. My restoration studio is based near Southam, Warwickshire. Where I work for clients in Warwickshire, Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire, and the wider West Midlands area.
We cover all aspects of furniture restoration using traditional techniques to bring your cherished family heirlooms back to life. Aiming to preserve and retain original material and patina. Keeping all evidence of history of age, only adding new material when absolutely necessary. All materials would always be in keeping with the age of the piece and totally reversible. Any conservation techniques are undertaken as a matter of course as being part of the restoration process. Full discussion with the client as to the level of restoration that would be suitable to meet their needs.
The restoration of upholstered furniture is another discipline undertaken. The emphasis here is the use of traditional upholstery techniques (stitched edges) and materials (horse hair). In this area we have the opportunity of bringing antiques into a contemporary setting as the choice of top cover is not detrimental to the historical element of the chair. The upholstery discipline also encompasses the crafts of caning and rushing. The caning on chairs is very susceptible to drying out and becomes very brittle.
The conservation of furniture is our primary objective. Our aim is to stabilise a piece of furniture from deterioration and prevent any further bouts in the future. By conserving all original material the pieces historical integrity is always maintained. Any item that comes to us for conservation, a full condition report is given with an assessment of any treatment that is required. This is the foundation where any further work, such as restoration if suitable, would be built on. Contact us to arrange an appointment to view your item and discuss your requirements, our details are set out below.
