George Beattie & Sons Ltd was founded in 1990 and following in the Beattie family foot-steps involved in the demolition industry for many years, is recognised throughout the construction industry in connection with demolition work of all types. With the passing of each year previous records have been broken and we are recognised as a company dedicated to providing work standards beyond question. Particular attention is given to Construction (Design & Management) Regulations and Health & Safety Regulations to ensure safe and acceptable working conditions at all times.
Construction is facing enormous pressure to find ways to conserve and make best use of our increasingly scarce natural materials. Recycling materials from demolition projects is more economical than disposal and can result in reduced project costs. One way to do this is to recycle materials, the major source of which is from demolitions. Providing the materials are suitable for their intended purpose, there is no reason why they cannot be recycled in line with building regulations. In most cases over 90% of construction materials can be reduced, reused, reclaimed or recycled.
Faade retention schemes are increasingly being used as a means of providing modern accommodation for commercial and industrial buildings whilst preserving the external architectural features of historic and attractive buildings in conservation areas and city centres. The construction of new buildings behind historic faadeis a unique phase in the history of architecture. It can only be applied to traditionally constructed buildings with load-bearing external walls and it presents designers and contractors with special technical problems.
George Beattie & Sons Ltd considers that it is very important to differentiate between dismantling and demolition as it is a common misunderstanding that they are very similar. This is far from the truth. Dismantling is generally achieved by a careful reversal of the construction process and is applicable to either the removal of mechanical installations or the taking down of structures. A combination of dismantling and demolition is often beneficial as it permits the recovery of assets, enabling these to be recycled, re-used or sold to offset the client's costs.
