David Armstrong Furniture Makers is a contemporary furniture making workshop based in a rural setting just south of Bristol and near to Bath. Established in 1981 the company has earned a reputation for quality craftsmanship, timeless design and attention to detail. All of our work is designed and handmade to order and every piece or project the result of sympathetic consultation and well-considered design. We are cabinetmakers working almost entirely in hardwoods and make bespoke furniture, handmade kitchens and bookcases as well as furniture for bedrooms, bathrooms, studies, offices, receptions and other locations.
Built-in bookcase and cupboards in solid Sapele with sliding doors and fully adjustable shelves. Stained timber to match existing furniture and a semi-mat lacquered finish. These white painted bookcases have fully adjustable shelves for versatility and are finished with a super smooth white mat lacquer, which is practical and hard wearing. This commission was for a small study in listed barn conversion where we needed to maximise the shelving area as well as providing worktop space for printers etc.
Here are a few Oak wardrobes and in a similar style. Wardrobes being such large items of furniture, we make them so that they can be taken apart for ease of delivery and installation and this also has the benefit of making them easy to move in the future. Each project is designed especially for a particular situation, sometimes as freestanding pieces and sometimes built in. Cloakroom furniture in oak with large open cabinets for hanging coats and jackets. There is a glass surface to display the contents of the top drawer and cubby holes for crash helmets!
We made this rosewood bathroom furniture in Santos Rosewood and Antarctica Corian. The timber really looks spectacular and the modern style contrasts well with this very old listed building. Not many timbers yield this rich natural colour with contrasting shades. An ensuite bathroom in a simple style designed to compliment the Shaker-style furniture in the adjacent bedroom. The timber is Canadian Maple with a slightly coloured lacquered finish. We design and install bespoke fitted bathrooms in a variety of different styles and materials, from fitted bathroom furniture and hand-made bath panels to vanity units and individual mirrors.
We specialise in handmade bespoke kitchens, which are made in a variety of materials and finishes - hardwood kitchens and painted kitchens with Corian, granite and solid wood worktops. Each one of our handmade fitted kitchens is the result of a close collaboration with the client, listening carefully and drawing out ideas, preparing sketches and offering good advice. With over 30 years' experience in this field we are experienced in making the process smooth and enjoyable for our clients. We are happy to manage the project from start to finish, or fit in with architects and builders and work to an agreed deadline.
Built-in oak corner seating with lift-up lids for storage below. A fairly simple design using solid oak tongue and groove boards. It is in a relatively small room but makes really good use of the space and provides a really pleasant seating and eating area. A variety of hand made chairs in different woods. The original design wascommissionedby a local farmer who had felled a large Yewtree, which he had had planked. We made a set of 6 chairs along with a table from that timber. Since then the design has been modified slightly by making the seats solid rather than slatted.
The first step is an informal conversation over the phone usually followed by a visit to the workshop to meet David Armstrong and see examples of work and materials. We will then visit your home where appropriate.
A stunning and highly practical kitchen in French Oak with Sensa Orinoco granite worktops. The doors were made from one exceptional log of French Oak which was 6m long. We managed to run the grain of the timber along both runs of the wall cabinets creating a beautiful continuity. The horizontal wall cabinet doors are all operated by Blum Aventos HF servo drive units for ease of use and unhindered accessibility. The worktops too are super wide giving plenty of room for gadgets and appliances! What a lovely pale oak kitchen this is.
