Mike started working from an old railway carriage at his parents home, stripping and painting old pieces of furniture. Many of the skills and techniques MIke uses today were learnt through working with furniture. Over the years Mike's company has grown well by reputation and has established good working practices with private clients and the trade. I had some oak flooring fitted by Wychwood a few months back, and I am very happy with how it looks and how fast the job was completed. They are a very friendly company and I would recommend them if you are looking for some 15th century flooring.
Wychwood make hand made kitchens in oak or materials suitable for distressed paint finish. This is often where having fitted a floor for a client the relationship and rapport has grown to allow us to work with the customer to design and install the kitchen they had in mind. Though we would not yet market ourselves as a kitchen company we have been very proud of our kitchens so far.
A very distinctive light finish. After sanding the floor is further prepared with wire brush and a lime paste before finishing and polishing. Clear oil coats for more modern/contemporary look. After installation the floor is carefuly sanded and cleaned before finishing with Hardwax oils that bring out the natural grain and colour of the wood. Our antiqued and polished floors can be coloured to your choice and distressed through levels 1 to 4. We offer four distinct treatments and use a range of stains, waxes and polishes to bring out the natural beauty of your floor.
Sometimes while working with a customer the opportunity or need arises for a bespoke furniture. This could be a simple bookcase made to measure and colour matched to the surroundings or something as interesting as a medieval style oak table, antiqued and finished to suit the period. Wychwood specialise in making oak and painted furniture, with an antiqued or distressed paint finish.
Today marks the date of Victoria's passing. It was through her that Victoria's Promise was born.
A 200 year old oak beam riddled with woodworm we are currently working on, hand sawn and split through the middle to be given a new life. We will post pics of the finished product.
A hallway we did 5 years ago in solid oak covering an existing 1980s pine floor which was in poor condition. With little natural light the client wanted the floor to look warm which we achieved by making the colour with pigments and finished with Fiddes hardwax oil. #fiddes_uk_rep #earthpigments #oaktree #quantockshouse.
