Jamie Ross creates high quality bespoke furniture. His understanding and love of working with wood began with a five-year apprenticeship with Rupert Brown, the renowned cabinetmaker. Here he learned the craft of traditional bespoke furniture design and making, from wood seasoning and selection to intricate detailing such as inlay and fine carving. Over the past ten years, Jamie has established a successful furniture business in Dorset, working for clients across London and the South of England. His attention to detail and knowledge of the intricacies of wood sets him apart, and he is able to create a piece from wood he has felled, sawn and seasoned himself.
Whether you have a clear vision or are unsure about your project we can help talk through your ideas until we have arrived at a piece of furniture that will suit you and its surroundings. A very important part of our process is that we work closely with clients to produce high quality furniture that meet all your requirements and specifications. Communication is at the heart of this process, and listening to the clients requests and ideas will lead us to produce detailed drawings and explanations, so you have a clear concept of how the piece will look and work.
We have a good reputation with local builders and can work closely with them or your architect to make sure your joinery is delivered on time and in budget. Jamie Ross Furniture also manufactures high quality joinery where items cannot be found on the shelf. We can make your doors and windows to the exact size and style you like, whether it is to make a feature of an opening or to match the existing style of joinery around your property. We offer a full service from manufacture, finishing, and fitting.
The process begins with an initial consultation to discuss design, materials, budget and location for the piece of furniture. Whether you have a clear idea or need some inspiration we can help talk through different designs and mechanisms that maybe needed, and also the different choices of wood that are available. Once the initial brief has been discussed we can then produce a set of sketches outlining the possible options and finishes. At this stage the initial sketches can be discussed and altered as your idea develops.
At Jamie Ross Furniture we try to primarily use British hardwoods, having been greatly influenced by the spectacular Oak and Ash surrounding his workshop on the Stock Gaylard Estate. Selecting the wood is an integral part of the process as no piece of wood is the same and its individual character is evaluated for the strength, stability and desired finish of the piece. We are always delighted to make a piece out timber felled from your property provided it meets all requirements. We use different decorative veneers, which can add a spectacular finish or detail to your furniture.
