Hawkesworth is the UK and Ireland's leading PAT (electrical equipment testing) and EICR testing company. We have experience of working with businesses of all sizes across a range of different industries, so whether you need your electrical equipment (PAT) testing or a full EICR inspection; we have you covered. We have over 100 engineers based across the UK, Ireland and the Channel Islands, all City & Guilds qualified, and DBS checked. We will work with you to keep your business compliant and your staff, customers and residents safe.

Current regulations state that all business premises have a fire detection system so that in event of a fire, staff, visitors and residents are alerted and can quickly vacate the building. For most buildings, this means a fire alarm system. If you have fire alarms on your premises, they must be tested and inspected by a 'competent person' to ensure that they work correctly. British Standard 5839 advises that fire alarm systems are thoroughly tested every six months, but you should have your system tested more frequently if you are responsible for a large or high-risk building.

Portable Appliance Testing (also known as PAT testing or electrical equipment inspection) is the easiest way of ensuring that all your electrical equipment is safe to use. The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 makes it your responsibility to make sure all of your electrical equipment is safe and compliant. If not, you could be putting yourself, your employees, your office and ultimately your business at risk. We've been providing PAT testing at Hawkesworth since 1993, and provide equipment testing services across the UK and Ireland.

Emergency lighting provides illumination if your building experiences a power failure or a fire. It can help keep staff calm and allow them to evacuate the building safely, as well as find fire-fighting equipment. Regulations such as The Regulator Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 states that all publically accessible buildings (like theatres, hospitals, shopping centres and council buildings), HMOs and most businesses, are required by law to have emergency lighting. As emergency lighting is powered by rechargeable batteries, it is important that the lighting is tested regularly to ensure that the batteries will power the lights in an emergency situation.

Our 2020 review of the year - what has been happening in the world of electrical testing? You may think 2020 has been a comparatively quiet year in the world of electrical testing and compliance. If you own a rental property in England, did you know that the law is changing in April 2021? From 1 April 2021, you will need a landlord electrical safety certificate (also known as an EICR certificate) for your property if you don't already have one. We test over seven million electrical appliances a year.
