We are very proud to be a British manufacturer. Everything we make here at our West Country factory HQ is designed with passion and built with care. In 1977, Summit was formed by Peter Ford and Tom Simpson, operating from small premises in Tring, Hertfordshire making tubular, steel framed chairs and tables: hardy, functional furniture for education and commercial environments. 1982 we started producing typist chairs; swivel chairs with height adjustable seats and backs. It was the start of chairs which put the user in control of their environmental set up. This evolved to operator chairs- a progression with the addition of seat and back angle adjustments and increased comfort.

Most of our team have been at Summit a long time. There's a dedication and commitment here, which is a lovely thing. We're proud of the diligence and care that goes into every activity; our people understand we're all critical to the business. Most of our sales team have made careers in the furniture industry; they have a wealth of experience and work very closely with clients, ensuring they have the right products and support material to offer their clients to win business. As you'd expect with a sales team, there are big personalities; people who are always keen for a chat; who are interested in you and your priorities.

Our clients are long-term partners, we approach these relationships as we do our furniture; build it to last. We believe in strong communication, and shared purpose. Most of the clients we started with 40 years ago are still working with us, we've grown our businesses together. We think this is because we look after our clients: we work hard to understand their priorities, and look at how we can support their business. Our R&D process looks to deliver beautiful, ergonomic solutions; furniture which enhances an environment, and makes the user's life a bit better.
