Read Brothers Ltd has been serving the construction industry in East Anglia since 1981. Very much a family orientated business, Read Brothers Ltd is based on the Sweet Briar Industrial Estate in Norwich. We are timber merchants, specialising in all softwoods, timber based sheet materials, the design and manufacture of trussed rafter roofs, easi-joist metal web floors and timber frame panels. We pride ourselves in the expertise of all of our staff and genuinely believe that we offer a service which is second to none.
Read Brothers Ltd is very much a family orientated business but we also have a full team of employees that all assist in keeping the business running and the success that it is today. I am proud to have started Read Brothers Ltd with my Brothers Steve, Jon, Glenn and Mother Betty in 1981. I enjoy overseeing the whole business but also still like to have a regular day out, seeing customers and measuring up for Easi Joists and Roof Trusses. Read Brothers Ltd has always been part of my life, even as a child, when I'd come into work with my Father on a Saturday morning.
As an alternative to traditional methods of construction we are able to offer Timber Frame Buildings. From your drawings we are able to design, manufacture and if required, erect your building. Apart from the obvious environmental benefits ( insulation etc. ) the speed of erection is another big advantage.
Since commencing the manufacture of roof trusses, Read Brothers Ltd has used Wolf Systems, the market leaders in truss design software and metal nail plates. Our expert designers have all gone through Wolf Systems' very own training so as to get the most from the truss design program. No job is too big or too small, from hospitals and houses to garage and garden sheds. If it can be done, we can do it! One of our team will deal with each project from quotation through to completed order. We meet agreed deadlines and are honest about delivery lead times.
Our strict environmental purchasing policy ensures that only the best quality kiln dried and graded softwood is imported from Sweden. We aim to keep a stock which covers 99% of our customers requirements and with our milling facilities enables us to produce non standard sizes. One of our ‘Visual Strength Graders' is always at hand to structurally grade the timber and they are regularly tested by BM TRADA Certification. Fencing timber is from the very best of UK forests and includes feather edge boards, cant rails and posts.
The saw mill has a Stenner band resaw, six cutter moulder, vertical panel saw, cross cut saw and thicknesser, all serviced by an environmentally friendly extraction system. Full machining facilities are available. The fabrication plant has two electro-magnetic table press stations, a Birch table press, a Birch Uniroll 750 easi joist press and three truss saws. Our team carry out fully engineered designs for each project and provide all of the necessary structural calculations, layouts and metalwork details for site use and building control.
