Bowman Riley is an award-winning team of architects, building consultants and interior designers working from offices in Leeds, London and Skipton, North Yorkshire. In 2018 Bowman Riley celebrated 50 years of designing exceptional spaces that have transformed our built environment. Our talented team of 60 professionals have successfully delivered high quality and effective property consultancy services on over 10,000 projects across the commercial, education, healthcare, hotel, leisure, industrial, residential and retail sectors.
Michael Feather became managing director of Bowman Riley in 2020 responsible for managing business operations across the company supported by an experienced senior management team. Michael is responsible for delivering our business plan focused on continuously improving client care, efficiency, commercial results and business generation. Bringing more than 20 years' experience in the property industry, Michael has been a pivotal member of the senior leadership team since 2014. An architect by profession, Michael initially started his career at Bowman Riley as a work experience student.
Bowman Riley has developed the design of a new residential development on Greenford Road comprising 36 one-bedroom apartments located in Greenford, a large suburb in the London Borough of Ealing. Brought on board at the post-planning stage, our team was presented with a significant challenge to create a commercially viable scheme whilst maintaining the quality and the gross internal areas. A hybrid approach to construction was introduced principally using an insulated concrete formwork with a steel frame to create the large pitched roof.
Bowman Riley designed a new two-storey building to reconfigure and extend the front of the main Colchester Hospital and provide a new Emergency Department. The new building combines a new entrance, waiting room, consultation rooms, retail units on the ground floor, office space on the first floor with a new Emergency Department, which integrates the new build to the existing emergency rooms in the hospital. The design of the new building features linear strips of variant colours of blue shades and large curtain walling to the front to provide plenty of daylight to both the retail units and office spaces.
Bowman Riley has been providing a full interior design service and construction package for Highways England on their new two-storey office building in Wakefield. The Calder Park office space differs from Highways England's other offices in that it will be used as a creative hub for staff. A key aspiration is for the office to be designed to WELL standards focusing on the health and wellbeing of the building users. To achieve this, we have considered the following key WELL elements of air, water, nourishment, light, movement, thermal control, sound, materials, mind and community from the very early stages of the project.
Bowman Riley's story began in 1968 when three architects launched a new practice and unable to decide on where to locate a Head Office to best serve the commercial centres of Leeds and Manchester, a pin was stuck in a map somewhere in between. The market town Skipton, North Yorkshire on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales was picked. From the beginning, the practice has had a very clear, unswerving, focus on quality design, attention to detail and client care, so much so that we continue to work with long-standing clients, some of whom span back to our company's inception.
