British Hardwoods has been in business since 1992. MD, Tony Fillingham, started out as a one man operation using a mobile chainsaw mill gradually building up a stock of mature hardwoods from fallen and inaccessible logs. Today, the company has grown to become one of the UK's leading solid and engineered wood flooring manufacturers, operating from a 17,500 ft2 purpose built factory situated at the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. At British Hardwoods we are passionate about the values that wood can offer to your living environment.

We also supply a range of engineered oak doors which suit more contemporary settings. We can also manufacture matching door linings, architraves and trims to complete your installation.

British Hardwoods is a specialist hardwood timber merchant and leading supplier of kiln dried hardwoods. We supply rough sawn timber, calibrated timber and hardwoods planed to size. We specialise in the supply of oak timber and supply other prime grade hardwoods such as ash, beech, maple, cherry and walnut. Our hobby packs and thin wood packs are popular among wood hobbyists who prefer to work with a selection of smaller pieces of wood.

Our range of wood wall cladding can be used to create a natural and organic look, and feel, to any interior space. Using only FSC certified timbers, our hardwood cladding boards can be used to create a truly unique decorative surface for all internal walls and ceilings.

Our solid oak flooring is by far our most popular species of hardwood floor. With its distinctive grain and gorgeous honeyed tones, nothing compares to the beauty of a real oak floor. A hardwax oil finish transforms the oak to a golden biscuit colour which develops a rich patina over time, and accentuates the grain structure and features of the wood. All our solid oak floors are manufactured from sustainably-sourced timber and are available in a range of grades, shades and finishes to suit any interior design space.

An engineered wood floor retains the natural look and feel of solid wood with the added benefit of enhanced stability. The robust structural properties of our engineered floors make them ideal for installation in conjunction with under-floor heating systems and areas of fluctuating humidity, such as bathrooms and kitchens. Since its launch our engineered wood flooring has been well received by everyone from trade to domestic customers alike. We are sure this is due to the methodical process of hand selecting each board and using only the best quality timber materials and adhesives available.

Our solid ash wood flooring is machined from sustainably-sourced prime grade American ash. The wood varies from light blonde to creamy brown and it radiates a light and airy contemporary feel. It has been a favoured floor for many commercial and modern installations due to its strength and durability. We source the raw ash timber from the very best saw mills in the USA and machine every floor on-site here in the UK. The ash boards are kiln-dried to a moisture content of 8-10%, and then carefully stored, before and after machining, in our temperature-controlled factory.

All our solid wood flooring could be described as truly traditional since wood has been used as a floor covering for hundreds of years. Traditionally, solid hardwood floors were used for structural purposes, being installed perpendicular to the wooden support beams of a building known as joists or bearers. Nowadays modern buildings tend to have solid subfloors, for example concrete, chipboard and plywood, so traditional fitting methods have adapted and evolved. Our solid wood floors are made in the traditional way, they are tongued and grooved on all four edges and at 20mm thick they are classed as a structural load-bearing floor.

Our contemporary solid wood floors can offer the perfect design solution for your modern living or working space. Whether you have a chic minimalist studio or a contemporary barn conversion, our solid wood floors lend an organic look, and feel, to any urban space. A contemporary wood floor can complement other natural products such as stone, granite and marble. Alternatively, using real wood as a floor finish can provide a stunning contrast against man made surfaces such as glass, chrome and steel.

Proudly made at our factory here in Yorkshire using only prime grade timbers. We specialise in oak and supply other hardwoods such as ash, beech, cherry, maple and walnut. We manufacture a range of flooring trims and beading for adding those finishing touches to a flooring installation project. We also supply other oak and hardwood mouldings such as picture frame, dado rail, window beading and panel moulding.

All our oak skirting boards and other hardwood skirtings are produced in-house by our skilled craftsmen using the very best German 'Weinig' planer-moulders. The solid timber is accurately machined with a very fine surface finish. We offer most standard profiles such as Ogee, Chamfered, Torus, Scotia, Square and Round Edge, Victoriana, New England and Lambs Tongue. Our hardwood skirting board is available to purchase online in heights ranging from 70mm to 222mm. Most of our skirting boards are machined to order, however, we are now pleased to be able to offer Fast Delivery on a select range of our most popular unfinished oak skirting boards supplied from stock.

If you have recently laid an unfinished wood floor, or have a newly sanded wood floor, it is important that the bare timber is finished as quickly as possible, in order to protect and seal the surface. Knot holes can be filled and sanded smooth if required prior to application of a hardwax oil or lacquer finish. Before applying your choice of finish, the floor should be clean and dry. A final wipe with a cloth, very lightly dampened with white spirit, should remove all traces of dust. Osmo Hardwax Oils contain a blend of natural oils and waxes which produce a very organic, natural satin sheen.

We're proud to be one of the UK's leading specialist timber merchants and supplier of quality kiln-dried hardwoods. All our sawn timber is sustainably sourced from the very best sawmills in Europe, the United States and Canada. The boards are carefully stored in our heated and acclimatised factory, giving an average moisture content of between 9-11%. Our sawn timbers are sold by the cubic foot in full sized planks. Our engineered oak flooring is by far our most popular species of hardwood floor. With its distinctive grain pattern and warm biscuit tone, nothing compares to the beauty of real oak. All our made-to-order engineered oak floors are available in a range of grades, shades and finishes. The boards are supplied in either a 15mm or 20mm thickness and are 185mm wide as standard. In addition to our own flooring, we now have immediate availability of a high quality, fully finished character grade engineered oak floor from stock.

Our natural engineered wood flooring can be supplied either unfinished, ready to take a finish of your own choice, or supplied with a clear hardwax oil finish. Hardwax oil is a non-pigmented blend of oils and waxes which produce a natural satin sheen. The oil is microporous and seeps into the timber, enhancing the grain and enriching the colour of the timber. If you wish to achieve a lighter, natural tone, we stock a range of specially formulated oils and lacquers designed to produce an "unfinished" wood appearance.

Using the correct products when fitting your new wood flooring is key to a successful installation. Whether you are laying a solid or engineered wood floor, we supply a full range of fixings, adhesives and underlays depending on your chosen fitting method. The decision whether to mechanically fix, glue or float your new wood floor is likely to be dependent on your existing subfloor i.e. Our solid and engineered wood floors can be glued directly on to a dry concrete subfloor using a high tensile MS polymer glue.
