Organic Roofs

After training in Switzerland where green roofs are mandatory, our Founder, Lee Evans returned to the UK and launched Organic Roofs with the intention of bringing European quality to the UK market. Our approach is to start with the plants and the create the conditions the ones you choose need to grow: there are many opinions and lots of products out there which can be confusing for clients, architects and contractors. But many years experience working with specialists on green roofs around the world Mexico to Switzerland to London and the whole UK has shown us that creating healthy living roofs that last is really simple.

The main things we'll need to find out include the kinds of plants you'd like to see growing because this tells us how much weight we'll be adding. We can tell you if you need a structural engineer, and give you technical information to pass to them so they can assess what's viable. We'll also check who's doing the waterproofing (or the condition of the existing). If you're considering asking someone else to do this work, you'll need to check whether their warranty covers our green roof. Once we know what kind of planting we'll be using, we can advise on which care package you'll need, and give you some information on how it supports local ecology (this info is sometimes needed by your planning authority).

Each build is unique and we'll work with you to shape the best possible solution for your green roof. Flat roofs have always been a very cost-effective and convenient form of roof- construction, but even the development of better roofing technologies has not prevented flat roofing from continuing to be prone to traditional defects such as leakage, component decay and, in the more extreme cases, structural failure. Millions of pounds a year are spent on the refurbishment of flat roofing - from simply patching, re-coating / re-covering through to the more comprehensive stripping off and replacement of the entire roof.
