Insulation is a relatively low cost solution that can significantly reduce your homes energy usage. Fitting loft insulation to an un-insulated ventilated loft can save up to £145 a year and insulating cavity walls could save a further £115 a year. Efficient options include Glass mineral wool insulation made from 86% recycled glass, Rockwool made primarily from volcanic rock an abundant natural resource or natural Sheep wool. External wall insulation while more costly is also an effective method with the advantage of being able to cover the substrate with a decorative rendered finish.

We will ensure your extension is built to the highest quality that matches the current exterior appearance, surrounding landscape and flow of your home, so it looks like it has always been there. Around 15% of your homes heat is lost through your doors. Choosing and correctly fitting doors with good U-values will pay for themselves over time. In turn, around 10% of your homes heat is lost through your windows, the majority through the glass. The U-values of windows and their energy rating should be considered in addition to their quality and security. Heat loss also occurs around windows and doors, accurate measurements for well fitted windows and simple draught proofing with caulking sealant can greatly reduce overall heat loss.

We have built single new builds for a number of clients over the years and are able to offer that personal service only available from a small, local and well regarded building company. We can either help through a Design, Planning and Build project providing our direction and expertise from design stage or by using your own architects drawings, just show us the plot of land! Thorough preparation before works commence is paramount for a new build project. Upon your confirmation to proceed with Rayners we will prepare a full timings schedule with key target dates for the works through to completion.

Roof windows are available in a variety of energy efficient glazing options for differing situations and can be fitted with recessed flashing to enable the window to sit lower in the roof structure and so improve insulation values. Sun tunnels can be used strategically to bring natural daylight to even the darkest areas of your home, reducing the need for artificial lighting. These can be ideal for hallways or internal bathrooms. As regular installers of both Velux and Fakro roof windows and sun tunnels we recommend vapour barriers, insulation collars and underfelt collars as standard to limit unnecessary heat loss.

One of the easiest ways to get an extra room, loft conversions are one of our most popular project requests and are a specific area of specialism for us. Traditionally a foundation trench has been filled with unsustainable wet concrete, we now have other options such as aircrete foundation blocks that perform better thermally, are produced from recycled materials and can save time and money due to their size. Aircrete blocks can also be used in block & beam floors as an energy and time efficient alternative to solid wet concrete floors.
