As a quantity surveyor David Clarke always had a passion for historical architecture, with a particular love for the joinery used in period properties. So when, forty years ago, the opportunity arose to purchase a small joinery company in Banbridge, Co Down, David and his wife Alison took the gamble of their lives, bought the company, and soon after DASK Timber opened its doors. Named after the Clarke family - David, Alison, Stephen and Kerry - we are still very much a family enterprise, with Stephen joining his parents in the business 25 years ago.
Our family has been in the business for 40 years: your home deserves quality products that will last even longer. Our high-quality materials, skilled craftsmen and excellent service mean that you get the best timber products available throughout Britain and Ireland. Over the years we have updated glazing and weather-proofing materials, but otherwise we are proud to say our traditional sliding sash is the same timber window we manufactured in 1973. As then, our priority is still to provide a quality product that is tailor-made to suit each of our client's needs, yet remaining sympathetic to the integrity of the building.
With a listed building it is often more appropriate to renovate the existing timber windows rather than replace them; this can include upgrading the performance of the window as part of the project. DASK craftsmen have a combined 240 years experience in working on period projects and have the ability to match and recreate any profile or section required to return a window back to its original glory. If you have a listed building, the performance and longevity of your existing windows can often be substantially improved by a comprehensive survey, thorough renovation and refurbishment, draught-sealing and re-painting of the joinery elements.
These products - designed to cover the spectrum from the completely traditional single glazed window, through a range of double glazed options to, most recently, a triple glazed timber window with an overall U-value of 1.2 W/mK - incorporate the beauty of traditional design with technological advances giving you the optimum thermal performance ratings to ensure your home is efficient and cost effective.
DASK manufacture conservatories and orangeries in both period and contemporary designs. For over 30 years our attention to detail, proportions and design techniques have ensured the perfect partnership between the new conservatory and the main house, adding that extra dimension to our clients home.
From experience we understand the importance of having a DASK representative survey each project in person. Our fitters are all experienced joiners, who are aware of the responsibility they carry both for the quality and performance of our products, as well as the care and attention they must pay to your project. They have all worked for us for many years and allow us the flexibility to offer a supply only or supply & fit service. We offer a wide range of solid woods, and will provide advice on suitable choices for particular situations or projects.
Over the last 10 years Dask have been asked many times to provide secondary glazing solutions to several of our larger customers. After extensive research and physical testing we have been able to provide attractive products which will substantially improve both acoustic and thermal performance, whilst taking nothing away from the unique architectural detailing of the existing buildings. Properly manufactured timber frames however, can incorporate mouldings and profiles matching those of the external windows, but can be acoustically sealed and incorporate the most up-to-date locking systems and acoustic reduction glass, to give a huge improvement to the internal environment of any building.
