Purcell started life in the 1940s as an architectural practice founded by conservation expert Donovan Purcell. After many years restoring churches and army buildings in East Anglia, Purcell was appointed as Surveyor to the Fabric of Ely Cathedral in 1960. We have continued to work at Ely to this day, but now take Purcell's ethos for excellent conservation architecture all over the world. Partnering with architect Peter Miller and graphic designer William "Bill" Tritton in 1965, we developed a strong core of architecture, heritage consultancy and masterplanning.
We love unlocking the potential of a space, so it becomes a home our clients cherish. The uniqueness of every property we design and conserve is fascinating as we get to create a home that fits the owner's desire, lifestyle and vision. A home is one of the most important places in our lives; the right design provides a space for connection, supports our lifestyle and ensures our well-being. Our practice creates homes you will love to live in and that others will admire. As architects and heritage consultants, we create spaces that not only maintain and preserve a property's history but reinvent it, allowing our clients to relax and play in their home.
Purcell delivers interior design solutions across multiple sectors including high-end residential, commercial and hospitality. We're recognised for our award-winning designs and our interior schemes range from the restoration of vulnerable heritage interiors to tailored contemporary designs. Interior design sits integrally within our architecture service, as well as independently with our own dedicated interior designers based in the UK and in our Hong Kong studio. Comprehensive research evaluates the significance and needs of each place, thus enabling our design solutions to be innovative yet relevant.
Purcell's team of qualified surveyors and architects offer specialist services for surveying the condition of historic buildings. These can either be provided as a stand-alone service or as part of a larger multi-disciplinary project. Our survey reports are always tailored to the specific requirements and expectations of the client, and are presented in a format that makes them accessible and easy to use. Our most important asset is the experience and knowledge of our team of conservation-accredited architects and surveyors.
