Resulting from the practice's specialisation in Residential and Healthcare, our Architects act as Expert Witnesses in the High Court on disability matters, negligence claims and property searches. Our heritage architects, ensure that every project with a conservation or heritage need is appropriately imagined and designed for both the clients needs and for the safeguarding of the heritage asset. Led by our Passivhaus architect, we are committed to incorporating sustainable design into every project, whether a new build or existing project, as a key driver or as a result of careful capital cost free thinking that improves buildings for the users and owners.
Cowan Architects is an established practice offering innovative design solutions combined with a high level of personal service from experienced and enthusiastic staff. We work closely with our clients to ensure their design requirements are met and take pride in our professional, practical and creative approach. The Practice was established by the current Chairman, David Cowan, in 1983 and the main office is based in East Grinstead, West Sussex. Whilst we predominantly serve London, the South East and Home Counties, our Architect Expert Witness' work covers the whole of the UK, Ireland and internationally.
We provide architectural services for commercial and private corporate clients in the developer residential, healthcare, education, care and assisted living, sport, hospitality and leisure, conservation and heritage, ecclesiastical and office work-place sectors. We are a design focused and commercially aware practice, proud to provide services for projects of all scales from small, unique sites to larger more contentious developments. Despite the extra layer of complexity that comes with commercial projects we aim to create design led spaces that remain practical, in budget and deliverable on programme.
We are skilled at understanding our client's requirements and turning these into reality. Our team work directly with clients and land owners creating master plans for both residential and mixed-use schemes. These vary from a few units to hundreds, both in rural settings in mid-Sussex and urban settings within the London Borough of Barking. Cowan Architects have an extensively qualified and experienced team within this sector, advising and working with other partner organisations such as land agents, planning consultants or direct from residential provider frameworks.
