Situated in the heart of the Sussex countryside the owners of this substantial period property, commissioned AJ Hammond to firstly construct a single storey playroom and laundry room extension, and then we were asked to return to undertake the conversion of the vast redundant loft space to create a double bedroom, bathroom, study and a WC. The client's local architect, Anthony Sherwin RIBA had specified exactly what was accepted of our team of craftsmen. Not just in the quality of materials and workmanship to be used, but to be aware that we were guests in our clients home and care and respect had to be taken to respect the surroundings and minimise any disruption.
Peter and Alex's new extension to their home reflects another leap forward for the craftsmen of AJ Hammond - a simple, elegant exterior designed to fit in with the local vernacular with a magical contemporary open-plan ground floor space. The local architects for this project were John D. Clarke & partners who combined the very best of traditional materials with the clients' contemporary desires for light, space and big spans. An envy - the inducing kitchen and dining areas are the main beneficiaries of the impressive sliding folding door system that allows the flexible space to be opened up or closed down as required.
This substantial 18th century Grade II listed home in East Dean, has just undergone a refurbishment. Which involved the removal of the existing integral double garage along with the suspended reinforced concrete floor slab and the oil tanks that were stored in the cellar. James Pearce of local architects CKA of Eastbourne who combined the very best of traditional materials with the clients desire for light, space and open-plan living. The newly created space was then enriched with modern services to complement the showpiece kitchen by Design Space London.
Situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the South Downs, this listed, flint, farmer's cottage was in desperate need of refurbishment. The extension provides a modern interior space whilst still being enclosed within an 18th century external shell. The conservion officer of Wealden district demanded that the flint and brickwork of the extension matched the original house, not only in dimension but also in the size, colour and texture of the lime mortar used. Detailed working drawings had to be provided by the architect Anthony Sherwin, to match the intricate joinery that was evident throughout the existing cottage.
