Thread Architects have been asked by the Broomhill Community Library to look forward to how the existing library building could be develop and reimagined to become a vibrant centre for the Broomhill community. The owners of this Sheffield home had lived in their house for most of their family lives. They came to us asking that we look at the complete redesign of all the existing spaces to modernise and reinvent the internal layout and circulation to meet their changing needs and make the most of the light.
Thread Architects are based in Sheffield and Solihull working in Yorkshire and the Midlands. We work at a variety of scales from urban to residential and from the initial ideas to the fine detail. We have wide ranging experience working with community groups, businesses, schools, families and individuals.
Thread works at a variety of scales and in a variety of ways through client-led, partnering and self-initiated projects and competitions. We start work from the initial concept sketches through to the crafted details of the building materials - the bits that you see and touch. Throughout the process we will focus on the experience of the spaces created and the functionality of the design. Sustainability is at the core of our work and is considered through the choice of materials, siting, lifecycle, adaptability and performance.
While Thread were closed over the holiday, we reviewed the year and told you a little bit more about our work on social media. Now it's the new year we have pulled together all the images and text into our start of year blog below. Our portfolio of work continues to grow and includes a wide range of residential extensions, one-off new houses, community projects and commercial work. Our variety of experience allows us to develop our design approach when working with a range of clients, from businesses to community groups, schools, families and individuals.
