Asphalt is a cost effective material which is known from major road construction where it has shown its reliability around the globe. It is commonly referred to as Tarmac, though modern production usually does not contain tar. A variety of aggregates are mixed with different bitumens or asphalts and other specialised ingredients to achieve the various properties desired for the different intended purposes. It can be produced in a wide variety of specifications to suite every project. Portwey has a long established relationship with its Suppliers, who have specially designed mixes for us to suit special conditions which we have used to great effect and which have since been used for many other projects around the country.
Block paving is a decorative surfacing which is being poduced in a great variety of styles and colours. This allows it to complement most properties. If installed correctly it should provide many years of reliable service. Due to its modular nature it provides the ability to carry out repairs which are generally less noticable than with other types of surface. Some varieties can be water permeable and SUDS compliant which generally means that planning permission will not be required for their installation.
Good groundworks are essential for good results. Thorough planning and preparation can make all the difference. We are able to carry out all the necessary groundworks to ensure a successful project, without vehicle ruts, loose edges, puddles or similar developing later. If required we will carry out the reshaping or demolition of existing structures and we can install piling, foundations and retaining walls if these should be necessary. We are a licensed waste carrier so we will also remove all spoils as quickly and efficiently as possible.
