Kay Pilsbury Thomas Architects is a family practice of Chartered Architects and Interior Designers passionate about historic buildings and the stories they tell. We have dedicated our studio to working with old and listed buildings. These vary in type from Country Houses to Town Houses, Cottages, Barn Conversions, Manor Houses, Hotels, Schools and Churches to name a few! We specialise in high quality conversions, extensions and adaptations to historic buildings of all shapes and sizes. KPT work on projects in the whole of Essex, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Norfolk, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and London.
Kay Pilsbury Thomas Architects is a family Architectural & Interior Design Practice, established in 1985 by Kay and now run by her Daughter Sibyl. We love designing and building onto historic buildings, converting barns new and old and creating bespoke one-off new-build houses. We have an enthusiastic and very knowledgeable, tight-knit team of Designers, who have been carefully selected for their knowledge in historic buildings or bespoke new-builds. We enjoy a fun close working relationship to understanding how you are using and how you would like to use your buildings.
We work with existing important historic listed school buildings which require renovating or improving, and also schools located in Conservation Areas that need brand new buildings, facilities and extensions. For all our school projects Kay Pilsbury Thomas, who focus on historic environments, team up as Advisors to SCABAL (S Cullinan & Buck) who specialise in School Design to provide the best of both worlds. The Directors, Sibyl of KPT and Jonathan of SCABAL, are husband and wife! SCABAL have been specialists in new build/renovation school design for more than 15 years.
Kay Pilsbury Thomas Architects can provide you with an all encompassing design service specialising in Historic and Ecological architectural design. We are a friendly and professional practice that enjoys working closely with clients to help them realise their aspirations. We are an RIBA Chartered Practice and Accredited in Building Conservation (AABC). We have dedicated the last 30 years to working on listed and old properties, with professional experience in historic building construction of all periods, listed building consents, building regulations, construction drawings, specifications and site administration.
We are a family firm with over 25 years of experience. The practice is run by Kay Pilsbury and her daughter Sibyl with a friendly expert team of specialist designers and Architects. Most of our clients come to us because they require an amiable Architect with a sound knowledge of old buildings, their history and construction. Our job is to help take you through the planning and listed building process by drawing up quality designs that answer your brief and are viable. Once planning is achieved we specialise in the production of bespoke, sound, detailed construction drawings using a combination of traditional and modern materials which ensure the works are built to a very high standard.
At KPT Architects we take pride in working hard towards our commitments to the Environment, Health & Safety and Quality.
Kay Pilsbury Thomas Architects are a close-knit, friendly team of very experienced RIBA Architects, Architectural Designers and BIID Interior Designers, who all specialise in the conservation, adaptation and extension to historic buildings. The practice was established by Architect Kay Pilsbury from our 17th Century barn studio in Radwinter in 1985, to focus on alterations & repairs to old buildings. In 2007 her daughter and Architect, Sibyl Thomas, also became a Director and now runs the practice, with Kay still working on our many Church projects.
