The purpose of an Emergency Lighting Inspection and Test Certificate is to assist in maintaining a 'Life Safety' system which provides reliable and safe egress from buildings/areas subjected to poor lighting conditions in time of emergency. They will also help businesses and organisations comply with the recommendations given in BS5266-1:2016 Emergency Lighting Part 1: Code of practice for the Emergency Lighting of Premises, BS EN 1838:2013 Emergency Escape Lighting / Standby Systems and BS EN 50172: 2004 / BS 5266-8: 2004 Emergency Escape Lighting Systems.
Fixed wire testing is the testing of the circuits contained within the fabric of your building. The socket outlets, lighting circuits and various others. This was formerly known as Periodic Inspection and Testing, however since January 2012 it is now called an Electrical Installation Condition Report. The two main dangers associated with electricity are risk of electric shock and risk of fire. Over time, all electrical equipment deteriorates with age, and it is in the best interest of not only yourself, your family, employees and any visitors, but also to your insurance company that you have an installation that is not only electrically sound but free from the potential risk of heat or fire.
An emergency lighting system is a legal requirement for every employer or businessthat encounters the general public as well as being required for HMO properties. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order (RRFSO) 2005, which came into force inOctober 2006, charges the responsible person in control of non-domestic premises andthe common areas of a House in Multiple Occupancy (HMO) with the safety of everyonein the building, whether working, visiting or living there.
