Unlike many of the big PAT testing companies out there, we're not just interested in the big contracts. We take pride in ensuring all our PAT Testing customers, whatever size, are safe and comply with their insurance requirements. As qualified and experienced PAT Testing and electrical engineers, we're happy and able to take the time to carry out small repairs, rather than 'cut the plug off'. We're also happy to explain about what PAT testing is and what your obligations are.
When you buy an electrical appliance in the UK, it is safe to use but, over time, it can deteriorate and become dangerous. A portable appliance (PAT) test is like an MoT for an electrical appliance, to make sure it's still safe. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) reports that 25% of all reportable electrical accidents involve portable appliances. Many fires are due to faulty electrical appliances. In addition to PAT Testing being proven way of demonstrating to the HSE that you are complying with the law in maintaining your electrical appliances properly, it is often a condition of business insurance - check with your insurer.
Like all other electrical appliances sold in the UK, microwave ovens are perfectly safe when new. However, like any appliance, they can become damaged with age and use. Like all electrical appliances, microwaves need testing for electrical safety. Unlike other appliances, they are designed to emit powerful radiation. This is perfectly safe when it is contained within the microwave, but if the door or seals become damaged, then the microwaves can escape and affect people using the oven. Mains electrical wiring is contained within the walls of your building, where it is not disturbed, and so only needs testing every 5 years.
