Emergency Lighting is a general term and is divided into emergency escape lighting and standby lighting. Both require a regular test and inspection to comply with regulations. This service can be arranged at your convenience as full tests (which can last up to 3 hours) may not be possibly during normal working hours. It is recommended that these tests are conducted every 6-12 months and details/outcomes are recorded in your emergency lighting logbook. Most clients prefer to carry out an initial 3 hour test, followed by 3 x quarterly 30 minute checks.
They are all potential safety hazards and therefore controls and safeguards need to be put in place to deal with associated risks. The degree of maintenance (including inspection and testing) varies for each country with national legislation and codes of practice. You must take all reasonable care that your employees work in a safe environment and use safe equipment.
