A garden design or plan need not be an expensive option. A full colour, hand drawn design in a large scale format is often an unnecessary luxury and will serve only as a souvenir of the work to be carried out. Instead a simple, easy to follow plan generated on CAD or by hand is often all that is required for the landscaper or intrepid gardener to create the garden you want. This is where our initial consultation comes into its own with your ideas realised on paper, all the better to visualise your garden.
The first stage of any good garden design will require a consultation visit. This will usually take between one and two hours and is the first opportunity for us to look at your garden together and listen to what you would like to achieve. Ideas at this stage are unlimited and together we can discuss how you use your garden, who is it for, what key features would you like to include and just as importantly, what you do not want in your garden. We can advise on the subtleties such as aspect, scale, levels and materials that will make your garden work for you.
Before a garden design can be drawn up it may be beneficial to carry out a full survey of your garden. This is not always necessary for smaller gardens or new builds but is particularly important for larger gardens with existing features, trees and shrubs which are to be retained. Measurements of the garden are taken noting all boundaries, trees and other features, outbuildings and also points of access to the garden. Views from doors and windows onto the garden are noted on the plan and also the views from the garden.

You may only need to talk your ideas over with us to get some professional help and advice on what will work best in your garden and give you the confidence to design and build it yourself. Many people prefer to see their ideas on paper in which case a survey and garden design plan may be what you require. If plant knowledge is not your strong point it may be useful to have a planting plan drawn up to show what plants will work where in your garden, plants are not cheap and expert knowledge on correct use will ensure that you don't put the wrong plant in the wrong place.
Many of the smaller gardens and rejuvenation projects we undertake are carried out by the same people that design the garden. Larger projects are contracted out to one of the professional landscaping companies we use.
