We're window, door, conservatory and curtain wall specialists based in Farnworth, near Bolton. For more than 25 years we have been making PVC-U products, using the best components available. We've responded to new innovations and changes in style, but we've kept hold of our fundamental principles: we deliver what our customers want - service, quality and smarter, warmer, secure and insulated homes.

Astra Windows is a family business. We began, back in 1989, in a small way, determined to make a business with a great reputation for quality and service. Although we think we've achieved those ambitions, we still want to get better and better. We've been investing in machinery, technology and training from the outset, and we'll continue to do that to stay ahead of the competition and to serve our customers. We're based in Farnworth, Lancashire, and supply to homeowners, trade customers and commercial projects all over the North West of England.

If you have old, troublesome, timber sash windows, or live in a period property that's had its appearance compromised with a poor choice of replacement windows, then our PVC-U vertical sliders offer a great solution. They combine traditional looks with modern standards of insulation, security and easy-care materials. Modern sash windows aren't draughty. They don't rattle in the wind or leak when it's wet. And, with top-quality double glazing included, they offer superb insulation. Panes that tilt inwards make the glass easy to clean from indoors, and proven balance mechanisms ensure they're always easy to open, by just the right amount.

French windows have symmetrical opening panes and when they're open, your outlook isn't obstructed by a mullion - you just get a great view of the world outside! It's a brilliant design that works on all sizes of window but is particularly effective where the aperture is small and you want plenty of ventilation, or where you may need an emergency escape route. Our French windows are made from the same multi-chambered profiles as our other window styles so that you can be sure they are a perfect match.

The right door makes a lot of difference. Apart from the obvious things like security and appearance, a new door can make your home a warmer and more welcoming place. It's not just entrance doors either - a sliding patio door or a bi-folding door, can transform your home's appearance and the way you live. We've stuck to our guns with doors - no gimmicks and no flashy products that don't work. Doors have to be tough, so the components we've chosen, for every style of door that we make, have been tested and proven to be strong and durable.

These windows are perfectly described by their name. To open them for ventilation, turn the handle and they tilt inwards along a hinge at the base. The real beauty of a Tilt & Turn window, however, happens when you turn the handle again: a smart bit of engineering moves the hinge position to the side and the window can swing open, into your home. It makes cleaning the outside glass, safe and simple, with the added advantage of providing a wide opening that could be used as an emergency exit. Tilt and Turn windows are simple and streamlined in their appearance.

Not all sliding doors are as good as ours. We're proud to offer doors made using Profile 22's systems. These are amongst the most secure and reliable sliding doors available. With low-maintenance PVC-U frames and specially-developed tracks and rollers they are very practical and easy to live with. The streamlined design of a sliding door has some great advantages: it is space saving and perfect for smaller homes, and the large expanse of glass, relative to the frame, allows the best view possible.

Although we've got thousands of satisfied domestic customers, we're also highly skilled and experienced on commercial projects. We don't shout about it much, because we get plenty of work on the back of the projects we complete. We're familiar with working with architects, planners and project managers and are flexible enough to work around other trades and outside the 9 to 5. We fabricate our French doors using Profile 22's advanced door systems. These are completely compatible with our windows, so that any installation can have a beautiful consistent finish and quality. Our French doors have slim frames which maximise the amount of light coming into your home and allow the best view of your garden.

We've been making conservatories and orangeries for a long time. Over the years we've seen materials and designs develop and improve. We've seen insulation and security made better and better, and we've seen roof structures and weatherproofing that perform better than we ever could have imagined at the outset. Even when closed, the amount of light flooding in and the feeling of space that the full height glass creates are amazing. When opened up - well, that's even more special! A bi-folding door can help you to make the most of summer with effortless entertaining, or give you a very special place to relax. And for those in-between days when it's not quite nice enough to sit out, a room fitted with a bi-folding door gives shelter, ventilation and an extra dimension to your home.

Things have changed a lot since the early days of PVC-U windows. Now frames are slimmer, stronger, and made from more durable materials. Hardware has helped to make windows very secure and glass technologies have improved thermal performance. We use profiles from market leading supplier Profile 22.
