Ryedale Remedials of Dumfries was established in 2008 by John Quigley, a Certificated Surveyor in Remedial Treatments (CSRT) qualified surveyor. We carry out specialist inspections and remedial treatments including reinstatement works for property owners, landlords, housing associations, solicitors and estate agents across southern Scotland and the north of England. John was joined by Gordon Maxwell in 2013 and, between them, they have more than 60 years' experience in the remedial trade, both being qualified joiners.
Rising damp is a problem which commonly affects older properties where the original damp proof course has become damaged, or the ground level around the property has been raised. Over time, water works its way through brick or stone work and the cement holding it together, causing rising damp. Aside from being unsightly and potentially bad for the health of those living in the affected property, rising damp often leads to timber decay which can affect the fabric of your home. That's why it's important to deal with the problem sooner rather than later, as leaving it will only cause it to get worse and make it more expensive to deal with later on.
We also undertake tanking work (tanking is treating damp walls which are underground) such as basements. Alternatively, send an email.
As basements are below ground and therefore, often below the water table, they can be more susceptible to damp problems, often leaving them uninhabitable. That's unfortunate, as a basement can be an ideal way to expand your living space and increase the value of your property. Many older buildings have cellars that can be turned into utility areas, home offices or playrooms, for example. Other properties may be suitable for a cellar conversion, provided any works meet basement waterproofing regulations.
