Contiguous bored pile walls are generally used for sites where groundwater is not an issue. The concrete piles are positioned so that they almost touch each other leaving a gap of around 100mm between each pile. Once installed the piles are tied together with reinforced concrete capping beams, forming a robust retaining wall. The secant retaining wall system involves the installation of the piles in such a way that they overlap using a male and female pattern. This technique forms a watertight seal and therefore provides a solid barrier against groundwater flow.

Our CFA piling rigs use concrete pumping technology in order to cast concrete piles within the ground. Once we have drilled to the required depth, concrete can be delivered to the hole directly through the hollow auger stems in one continuous action as the auger is removed. The concrete pressure can be monitored using on board computers and changed depending on the depth and diameter of the pile, the type of concrete being used, and the type of soil surrounding the pile. In some form or another, the CFA piling technique has been used in the UK for over 50 years and is now one of the most common methods used in the piling industry.

We work closely with architects, local authorities, builders, and private clients to ensure that the right designs and cost efficient methods are selected to carry out their projects. Beyond pile design and installation we can take on many other aspects of groundwork, from installing drainage to preparing foundations for building and block work to commence.
