With 25 years' experience in leaded windows, our team of dedicated professionals at Steve Sherriff are skilled in leaded window restoration of Grade 1 or 2 listed and protected buildings along with unlisted building work. Often leaded windows, otherwise known as leaded glass or leaded lights, will have loose or rattling glass, cracked solder joints and/or very fragile lead cames. This is a sign that age has taken its toll and they should be restored before there is further deterioration. We provide leaded window restoration that will reinstate the window and give your leaded windows over a 100 years of life!
While older houses are beautiful they can be quite draughty without the appropriate measures in place. Many homeowners want to upgrade their windows without compromising the integrity and history of their beloved building. Whether by personal preference or listed building restrictions, Steve Sherriff can help you preserve your original windows through secondary glazing. We have a toughened or laminated glass secondary glass glazing system for leaded lights and windows that requires no framework and is almost invisible once fitted.
Steve Sherriff have over 25 years' experience manufacturing leaded windows, otherwise known as leaded glass or leaded lights. During this time, we mastered the traditional techniques used to make high-quality and long lasting leaded windows, and use traditional materials to recreate a truly authentic window suitable for any home or building, new or old with a life of in excess of 100 years. We manufacture leaded windows by piecing panes of glass together supported by a lead support to act as the backbone of a panel.
Triple glazing follows the same principle as double glazing but with an extra layer for warmth and protection. To achieve triple glazing with stained and leaded glass, a stained glass panel is encapsulated inside a double glazed unit. The existing stained and leaded glass is removed from the existing window frame of your house, the old edge lead of the panel is removed and the panel is then re-sized. At the same time any cracked or broken pieces of glass are removed, replaced or repaired. After these preliminary steps are completed, a new specially profiled edge lead can be added.
Steve Sherriff offer a fully qualified window restoration and conservation service. Preserving the original glasswork in stained glass windows and leaded lights is a high priority of ours, to prevent the loss of such original pieces of artwork. We can restore many types of windows in protected Grade 1 or 2 listed buildings and unlisted buildings. If not maintained properly, old windows such as stained glass windows or leaded windows may become discoloured or damaged due to years of weathering and decay.
Here at Steve Sherriff we specialise primarily in stained glass and leaded windows and frames, but we are being increasingly asked for Aluminium framed windows and doors, especially where they are part of an extension to a listed building, but not exclusively so. Often, a Conservation Officer of the planning authority will insist on the extension being so different, e.g. We can now manufacture a range of aluminium windows and door products with sleek designs, excellent insulation qualities and long-lasting materials.
