Situated to the west of Edinburgh, Dougal Philip and Lesley Watson first set-up the garden centre over 40 years ago. New Hopetoun Gardens has grown well over the years. Now, with a well-stocked gift shop, our popular Orangery tearoom, and a fantastic reputation as one of Edinburgh's best-stocked garden centres, we continue to focus on variety, choice and quality. Known locally as The Plant People and run by skilled gardeners with a genuine passion for growing and gardening, we select our garden plants and shrubs very carefully, so we know they will grow well in Scotland.
The first two decades in the Walled Garden of Hopetoun House and the last twenty years here at New Hopetoun Gardens. Tansy the cat managed the transition but her role is now taken by Basil at 20 years old! Only six of us now worked in the Walled Garden - Dougal, Lesley, Jane, Graham, Tim and Katrina - though many of our dedicated team have worked hard with us for many years in the new location. Of course we wouldn't be where we are today without the loyal support of our ever-growing band of customers (old & new), and we do hope as many of you as possible can join us and help us celebrate as we mark our 40th Anniversary with a number of special events and talks.

By far the best garden centre in the area - great selection of well cared for plants and very helpful staff. It’s a lovely walk round the gardens and feels very Covid safe.

very helpful staff, lovely setting for all plants means you can go and spend a lot of time just enjoying the gardens and listening to / watching all the birds. lovely shopping experience.all will be well with the world again when you finish your trip in the cafe.

This week I came in to buy some small trees for my garden and a very helpful and knowledgeable member of staff spent lots of time explaining different varieties and how to plant them. I really appreciated this thank you! We planted them today and looking forward to seeing them grow.

Excellent garden centre and gift shop and cafe is well spaced out a limited menu but adequate, open toilets are a added bonus and a interesting farm shop!

It's a lovely garden centre. It's really about the garden centre itself which is wonderful to walk round. Thinks are just starting to come in to bud and even flower. They have a nice cafe and shop too which has level access for those who need it. They will also running their 10% off on Wednesdays in May again this year. Always worth going then too although must point out doesn't apply to shop or cafe for those who thought it might.
