Rae Brown & Company Ltd are Joiners and Building Contractors based in Farburn Terrace, Dyce, Aberdeen. We were established by Rae Brown and a partner in 1975 after a number of years working in construction abroad. With a substantial seven-figure turnover on a progressive growth curve, we are one of the larger medium sized building companies in Aberdeen, predominantly working as a Main Contractor or Lead Contractor although sometimes acts as a Sub-Contractor or Independent Contractor. We take a pride in our workforce.
We have an established reputation in the conservation and renovation of many historic and listed buildings. Unusually we have completed renovations of historic buildings in both the commercial and domestic sector. We have a wide experience of working with specialist advisors, architects and planning conservation officers as well as crucially having good relationships with representatives from organisations such as Historic Scotland, The Scottish Civic Trust (SCT) and the Architectural Heritage Society.
Commercial Contracting is an important part of the Company. Consisting mainly of large internal alterations such as partitions, suspended ceilings, mezzanine floors, walkways, fire compartments, large extensions, but also includes new build. Our client base includes local Councils, Universities, Hospitals, Housing Associations and several large Oil Companies. We work on a range of different types of buildings such as Schools, Hospitals, Offices, Warehouses, Factories, Old Peoples Homes and Public and Private Housing.
This is an increasing important part of the Company. Bringing the skills, experience and crucially organisational ability as a Main Contractor in the Commercial sector to private client work has been very successful. Our expertise has concentrated on house extensions and loft conversions although one-off traditional and new build kits have been completed. The increasing popularity of steading conversions in rural areas have increased the Company's domestic work outwith Aberdeen itself. Renovation of derelict, semi-derelict or simply dated houses is another important part of the Company's domestic contracting arm.
We originally carried out property maintenance for Grampian Regional Council. This led to the creation of a small department concentrating on maintenance. Our customer base is predominantly Hospitals, Charities, Housing Associations and the Councils. The work is generally reactive and incredibly varied. This requires people with tremendously varied skills and flexibility. This area is a very competitive market place and crucial to the Company's success is our ability for fast reactive responses and the skill and flexibility of our staff.
