RLH Developments was established in 1980 and has grown to a successful and trusted contractor, working for local authorities, housing associations, surveyors, landlords, estate agents, building contractors and private clients across the south east. Based in Croydon, we provide timber and damp-proofing treatment and restoration across Central and South London, and working throughout Surrey, Sussex and Kent. For more information on the areas we cover, please refer to our contact us page. However, if you fall outside this area, please don't hesitate to get in touch as we may still be able to help you.

RLH Developments can provide detailed reports and priced schedules of works for all types and sizes of building contracts. We are happy to price either on a tender basis, or using a pre-agreed schedule of rates. Once works has been agreed, our management team and surveyors will work closely with the contractor to ensure works are carried out within the agreed time frame and with minimum disruption to the site and to other workers. All our operatives and surveyors carry CSCS cards enabling them to work on site.

At RLH Developments we have a particular focus on Health & Safety compliance and in providing ongoing training and retraining to all of our surveyors and operatives to ensure that we maintain best-practice standards at all times. All of our surveyors have the CSRT and/or the CSSW qualification in surveying; contract managers have SSSTS Certification; and all operatives have CSCS cards. In addition, we are currently supporting all of our operatives to obtain NVQ Level 2 in Damp Proofing and Wood Preserving.

We offer 10 year guarantees on chemical damp proofing and all timber treatments and 5 - 10 year guarantees on tanking and structural waterproofing. Guarantees are transferable to any new owner of the property throughout the guarantee period. The unlikely event of a failure of remedial works usually occur within the first five years and therefore the failure can be identified and rectified under the terms of our guarantee. Defects that occur after this time are usually the result of poor external maintenance and not related to the specialist works carried out.

The most destructive fungus affecting properties in the United Kingdom is True Dry Rot Fungus Serpula Lacrymans. The dry rot fungus takes hold initially in damp timber, but can then spread very quickly, as it moves through the whole fabric of the building affecting any of the structural timbers it reaches. It can travel along non-wood surfaces, so any treatment may have to include removing the fungus from brick or masonry as well as wood treatments. Where there is dry rot in the property, you may see evidence of mushroom-like fungi that then give off millions of spores that spread the fungus further.

Tanking or structural waterproofing refers to the prevention of damp in underground walls and floors. Tanking is commonly required in any cellar conversion as well as in basement flats, where some or all of the walls may be below ground level and affected by damp. If your property requires structural waterproofing, you will need the best expert advice, as the specific method of waterproofing and the means of application will depend on the structure of the property and the surrounding conditions.

Our Operatives are highly skilled and experienced in all replastering work, using specialist damp proofing plaster products to achieve a smooth, professional finish to your walls and ceilings. After completing remedial works to uncover and treat the source of a damp problem in your property, it may be necessary to replace contaminated plaster on the walls. If salt contamination has occurred, the affected plaster will be removed and our specialist plasterers will replace it with a salt-retardant plaster or render that will prevent further damage to paint or wallpaper finishes on your walls.

Our surveyors are experienced in diagnosing condensation and identifying the conditions that are leading to the problem. Usually simple advice on methods of providing a more balanced regime of heating and ventilation is sufficient to resolve the issue. Where rising damp is diagnosed it is vital that the source of moisture is identified before any work starts. Treatment work, such as a Damp Proof Course, will only prevent further moisture rising from the ground, so we will only recommend this solution where it is clear that this will resolve the problem completely.
