When you call us for a basement waterproofing survey, our professional, specialist surveyor will try to establish if any previous tanking system has been used. If this is the case, they would find out what type of tanking was installed and the material used to construct the basement. Our waterproofing expert will also ask what the basement is to be used for i.e. storage or if it's habitable in order to comply to BS8102: 2009. All of this information may seem irrelevant to you, however, for our qualified expert, this essential information all adds up.

It should be noted that whilst we can lift floor boards to inspect the sub-floor area, we are unable to lift laminate or carpets; these would need to be lifted prior to any woodworm, wet rot or dry rot survey being carried out - some home vendors don't approve for flooring to be lifted in order to carry out a survey. In this scenario, the timber Surveyor would look to see if there was any springing to the floor area if it was adjacent to a damp affected wall as this is a sign that sub-floor timbers could be affected by Wet Rot (Coniophora Puteana).

Plastering a damp wall is no easy task. Our specialist domestic re-plastering allows for water vapour to be absorbed without any damage to the wall or the structure. Our re-plastering reduces moisture rising to the wall surface whilst the wall progresses through its drying process. Rising Damp contains water soluble salts that, when the wall dries through evaporation, move towards the surface; these are the marks and damage that you see. Our specialist re-plastering contains a waterproof additive that reduces the salt migration to the surface of the wall.

The condition of a basement is often overlooked when first moving into a property, but over time, if it is not waterproofed, it can be expensive to fix. Basement waterproofing, sometimes referred to as structural waterproofing, is an imperative for your house and it can be applied internally or externally as no two houses are the same. Type A waterproofing is commonly known as 'tanking' and usually comprises of multi coat renders, cement based coatings, bituminous paints or epoxy coatings. Like of all of our waterproofing, this can be applied internally or externally, but the areas worked on must be cleared of any defects for Type A waterproofing to work.
