A heat pump is a device that uses a very small amount of energy to move heat from one location to another. Heat pumps are designed to move thermal energy opposite to the direction of spontaneous heat flow by absorbing heat from a cold space and releasing it to a warmer one. By transporting heat, instead of burning fuel to create it, heat pumps use much less energy than other heating systems. There are three different types of heat pump, ground source, air source and water source.
