Westbury Garden Rooms is a family business founded in 1988 by Jonathan Hey. We are the designer, planner and timber manufacturer of all our conservatories, orangeries, kitchen extensions and pool houses. From the initial consultation to the final coat of paint, every step is undertaken in-house. Over the last 30 years we have earned an impressive reputation for outstanding architecturally-led design, superior quality and ease of maintenance. With much of our work coming from personal recommendations, continuing to provide such a high-quality service, and thus preserving our reputation, is of the utmost importance.
It is important that your Westbury building feels every bit as exciting at night as during the day when it is bathed in glorious natural light. Westbury's designers are experienced in achieving lighting designs which both enhance the features of the space, and create different moods and levels of light for all occasions. Similarly well designed exterior lighting will encourage a greater sense of space beyond the confines of the glazed frames and walls. Good lighting is fundamental for creating, enhancing, and transforming space.
The kitchen remains the heart of any home, and its importance continues to grow as families are now looking for a multi-functional living space. As such, many of our customers opt for a glass kitchen extension, which creates a light, bright, and spacious room that not only serves as a place to cook but can also be shared with family and friends. A kitchen extension can transform a cramped layout into an inviting modern space for living, dining and entertaining. A must-have in new-build properties and one of the top renovations we carry out to existing homes is the addition of a generous open-plan kitchen.
Our Westbury flooring range has been specially selected to complement our timber orangeries, garden rooms and conservatories. Our Stone Floor options are hard wearing and conduct heat effectively through underfloor heating. They are a very popular option for our garden rooms due to their durable and low maintenance attributes, as well as their aesthetically pleasing appeal. We offer a wide range of tones and finishes to suit any purpose or style. We encourage you to visit our showroom to explore, first hand, our range of styles, colours and textures.
A bespoke wooden conservatory has a fully glazed roof and is typically pitched in order to let the maximum amount of light and heat into the room below. It is normally housed on a dwarf brick base with the sides also being fully glazed. A product of our love of gardening and advances in heating and glass technologies, homeowners delighted in building conservatories dedicated to nurturing exotic plants and even animals. Nowadays, wooden conservatories are seldom used for this purpose, though they can still create a romantic space from which to connect with nature.
Generally-speaking, conservatories, orangeries and pool-houses all constitute a ‘garden room extension', but more specifically, we define a garden room extension as a semi-glazed building with a tiled roof as opposed to glass. Westbury bespoke garden rooms boast a high roofline with plenty of glazed aspects. Often the most stunning design feature is the glazing that spans into the apex. Large vertical panes of glass to the gables will flood the room with light, considerably increase the sense of space and emphasise the vaulted ceiling.
A bespoke pool house is commonly used to provide permanent cover of a swimming pool whilst still connecting the space with the outdoors. Alternatively, they are used as a summerhouse, or a place to house facilities, such as changing, shower and pump rooms for an outdoor pool. When reviewing pool house designs, it is important to consider not only how a pool house will look, but also how it will perform. The conditions of a pool house are very different to any other building as air handling and heating are essential to eliminate condensation and ensure the pool house is comfortable.
Orangeries were once a symbol of prestige and wealth, built on to the residences of the very wealthy in a bid to protect their fruit trees during the colder months. The combination of timber, glass and masonry gives a sense of grandeur and the glazed lantern built into a flat roof is a real showpiece, providing unparalleled natural light and sky views. Though their sense of luxury remains, the function of such spaces has changed considerably since the 17th century. Whilst some are still used for their original purpose, most residential orangeries are built to provide a fantastic setting for living or dining in.
