We are a family run business managed by Karen and Gary North and we provide our own bespoke service for every individual client. We specialise in cleaning services for both residential and commercial clients serving the Kent area, serving the Medway towns, Dartford, Maidstone, Sittingbourne etc and also Surrey, Sussex, Essex and South-East London areas. Formerly based in Swanley, North Star relocated to Sheerness in 2008 and has been acknowledged as a full member of the National Carpet Cleaners Association, No. 1068, in recognition of our high standards and knowledge in the cleaning industry.

The demand is highest during the summer and autumn months. We treat all furnishings and carpets (including curtains) to all types of motorhomes, caravans and holiday homes. We can come to your home or carry out cleaning whilst you are on holiday yourself and carry out any service you require. We can even collect keys from your site manager on request. Exterior cleaning is also available including yearly maintenance cleans to prolong the life of your van. Priced on inspection only. Great care must be taken when carrying out the process. The two major problems are shrinkage and the composition of the fabric, which can therefore lead to corrupted piles, streaks and rippling effect. North Star are able to do this whilst in situ, eliminating the need to take down, put up, remove hooks and visits back and forth to the laundrette. Cleaning curtains in situ can be quite convenient to the customer, saving the time and expense of taking to the local dry cleaner (not to mention the avoidance of shrinkage).

End of Tenancy Clean is something we provide all year round but it is in high demand during the summer and autumn months. Each clean is tailor made to suit each individual property whether it be a one bedroom flat to an eight bedroomed farmhouse. We clean everything literally from top to bottom, including light fittings, skirtings, doors and frames, windows and deep clean/sanitization to bathrooms and kitchens. In most tenancy agreements, it is also a requirement of the landlord or managing agent that the carpets are professionally cleaned and treated for fleas etc.

We are often asked many questions about the carpet cleaning process, but a common one is "How long with my carpet/furniture take to dry and how soon can I walk on it". Answer: The drying time can impact on many things, including the level of soiling, how much water was required, the weather conditions, atmospheric conditions inside the home etc. In most instances, the carpets and furnishings will be dry within 6-8 hours. If the drying time is a concern to you, please mention this and we will be able to advise on how these can be expediated by using some special techniques and equipment.

We carry out all types of commercial cleaning, whether it is a high street shop, restaurant, pub - right up to a multi national tower block. We specialise in property developments and work with our clients to provide a tailor-made package suitable for that individual's needs. Whether you need a general clean-up, removal of cobwebs, or disaster, this can be carried out by our team of fully trained operatives. Various contracts are available, be it daily, weekly or monthly. Any commercial work is subject to an on-site survey and written quotation.

We carry out renovation to all types of flooring, such as wood, amtico, karndean, parquet, marble, limestone etc. These can be restored by such methods as sanding, stripping and sealing using alkaline stripping agents and emulsion polishes. In the case of marble, a cleaning agent is used with a double-0 gauge wire wool and buffing machine. In regard to laminate flooring, we would always recommend that a very light/damp cloth is wiped over the surface or even better, a steam mop would be ideal as is non abrasive and is chemical free and does not saturate the surface causing the floor to lift.

Although similar to carpets, rugs more complicated process, due to the structure, depth and density of the pile, which makes pre vacuuming a much more important factor. Some deep pile wool rugs, can even been worked on utilising a rotary machine to get even deeper down resulting in a better finish. Silk rugs are very similar to silk curtains, using the dry solvent solution and are also only treated by hand. Do you ever look at your floor and think "I wish I hadn't dropped that iron" or "how did that cigarette fall out of the ash-tray"? This is a method whereby damaged areas of carpet can be removed tuft by tuft and new ones inserted using a needle and thread, giving a totally invisible repair. Typical examples of this process would be used for cigarette burns, moths, manufacturing problems and coals jumping from an open fireplace etc. This option would be more expensive than a patch insertion due to the time it takes to sew each individual tuft.
