Like roof lights Velux windows bring natural light into rooms which may not otherwise have a window. Velux windows are typically fitted into pitches roofs and can pivot around the centre of the window or be top hung making them easy to open to ventilate the interior space. Velux windows are a popular choice for loft conversions, extensions and barn conversions where ceiling heights can be low. Velux also manufacture sun tunnels which can be another great way to get daylight into tricky spaces. We source and install Velux windows and flashing to ensure the best possible weather tight finish for your roof window.
The Studley Roofing team is experienced at detecting leaks and identifying the source of the problem. If you suspect a leaking roof it is best to get it looked at sooner rather than later as often the leak has been causing internal damage for some time before it has become obvious. Water stains across walls and ceilings are the most common indicator that there is a problem with the roof, but finding the source of the leak isn't always easy. Once the damage to the roof has been assessed we can advise on the best course of action to repair the leaking section.
Roof slates have a slimline, smart appearance, are durable and are available to suit a range of budgets. There are a wide variety of types of slate available to builders and home owners and our experienced tilers can advise on the right type of roofing slate for your project. When selecting a slate type for your roof it is important to consider factors such as the pitch of the roof, the aesthetic that is required, and the durability of the product. Natural slate can prove to be more expensive than man made alternatives but especially when restoring or repairing a roof on an older building, matching new roof tiles to existing materials is an important consideration.
At Studley Roofing we can install or repair flat roofs, using either traditional felt, GRP Fibreglass or EPDM. Traditional felt flat roofing is composed of three layers - base felt, glass fibre underlay and a top layer of high performance mineral felt. There is greater scope for customisation of felt roofing with different coloured top layers available. Repairs to existing felt roofs can be quickly and easily undertaken and typically will last 20 years or more. If you think your flat roof might is leaking or might need to be repaired, take a look at our handy leak detection guide.
Installing roof lights is a great way to introduce natural light into a room, and makes a fabulous modern feature. Roof lights or skylights can either be flat, domed, or pitched - often known as roof lanterns. We work with a range of suppliers to source high quality products which we can then fit and install for you either on flat or pitched roofs. Modern rooflights are well insulated and come in a wide range of shapes and sizes including bespoke designs. Roof lights or roof lanterns are usually differentiated from roof windows in that they are often installed out of the roof plane on an upstand or kerb, whereas roof windows are usually fitted in the same orientation or plane as the roof - at a minimum 15 degree pitch.
Studley Roofing's experienced tilers can help to advise on the best roof tiling material for your project depending on your budget and required look and feel. Concrete and clay tiles are both common choices for roof tiles - concrete is extremely hard wearing and requires little maintenance and is generally cheaper. Where clay tiles are also they will often improve with age as they take on a weathered appearance, although the raw materials used to produce them mean they are usually more expensive.
Studley Roofing provide chimney replacement, repair or removal services. The most common issue with chimneys is eroded pointing which can lead to instability of the chimney stack as well as water penetration. Once water has ingressed into the chimney structure this can accelerate deterioraton andthe risk of sections of the chimney disintegrating and causing further damage to the roof becomes higher and higher. Damaged mortar joints between the chimney masonry or a cracked chimney crown may be identifed as part of a home buyers survey or can be spotted by anyone able to access the roof of the building.
Guttering and drainage are integral to a successful roofing project and particularly with new builds and extensions it is important to properly design and plan the guttering scheme to be as effective as possible. Each plane of a roof will drain differently depending on the material, the size of the area and the pitch and good drainage design will take these factors into account to ensure your guttering and downpipes can handle the load being placed on them. Guttering and down pipes are most commonly available in UPVC but we can also repair and maintain traditional cast iron and modern steel guttering.
