The Rooflight Company was founded by architect Peter King, RIAS, who was the first to design a copy of the Victorian cast iron skylights that would meet modern building standards and meet the needs of Planning Officers.

There is a compelling reason for our many successful relationships with architects and customers; it is that we listen. A deep understanding of the complexities of every bespoke project is fundamental to our designs and makes us much more than just another supplier. We agonise over the detail; after all we were founded by an architect. We sort out all the complicated detailing and provide project specific drawings with installation details for all our bespoke designs, supporting you from start to finish.

Our steel rooflights and roof windows are guaranteed for 12 months in accordance with our Terms and Conditions. Upon product registration with us, this guarantee can be extended as set out below, provided that the appropriate products have been installed to suit their location and that these are regularly maintained, with these actions recorded in accordance with our maintenance instructions.

We specify materials from the world's leading suppliers, but we still inspect every single item at every single stage to ensure that they match our exacting standards. It is said that windows are the eyes of a building and it is the attention of experienced human eyes at every stage which contribute to creating the special nature of the Roof Windows we produce. Nowadays, specially formulated silicone sealant takes the place of putty and, as with the glaziers of days gone by, this skilled stage of the process of window making is fundamental as it determines the performance and the aesthetic appearance of the finished product.

When architect Peter King RIBA was practicing in London's Hampstead Garden Suburb in the late 1980's he had many clients who wanted to extend into their attics. The problem was getting access to light and ventilation - modern roof windows and dormers were completely out of the question due to the local Trust's strict planning guidelines. The only option was a cast iron single-glazed rooflight based on the Victorian design, which was prone to rusting and leaking. Peter set about designing a copy of the Victorian cast iron model which would meet modern standards, using steel, double-glazing, draught stripping and a thermal lining.

Over 25 years' knowledge, testing and design skill goes into every rooflight that we design and manufacture. Built-in our West Oxfordshire workshop by our highly skilled team of craftsmen, every step of the build process is closely monitored to ensure our high standards are met.
