The Worshipful Company of Plumbers aims to support and make a difference within the ancient industry of plumbing. We assist and support charities and trainees, partner our industry through affiliations and work closely with the Lord Mayor and the City of London. Through fundraising and by direct activity, we help charities and not-for-profits in the UK and around the world ensure a better future for both individuals and their communities. The City Liveries together raise over 50M a year and make a significant difference to the lives of millions.

In spite of the name of the Company, you do not need to be directly active in the plumbing industry to join. We embrace designers, manufacturers, retailers, all tradesmen, as well as individuals who can contribute to the professional running of a modern Livery Company. The Plumbers Company, whilst focused on the City of London, is international and is always keen to admit new members, men and women, into the appropriate membership category of the Company. To take a full part in the Livery though means becoming a full Liveryman - which we would encourage all applicants to become or aspire to.

The origins of the Fellowship of Plumbers are uncertain, but as early as 1365 the Fellowship was in a sufficiently strong position to prepare Ordinances which were presented to the Aldermen for their approval. The Ordinances indicated that it was the desire of the craftsmen that their work should be well done. The First Article provided that the plumber should submit himself to examination by the best and most skilful men in the trade in order that he might be certified so that "the trade might not be scandalised, or the commonalty damaged and deceived by folk who do not know their trade".

Chartered Engineers are found as Directors and Senior managers of engineers designing and managing plumbing and public health engineering systems for large projects. The Worshipful Company of Plumbers supports the work of the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering in the development of training schemes so that at all levels you can be Proud to be a Professional. Find a centre near you from the list below. The CIPHE can give you advice on the Career pathway from school leaver to Chartered Engineer.

We continue to strongly support the craft of plumbing and the associated industries, including the conservation of our great heritage. The support of education at all levels is a key part of this work. Plumbing is a live and advancing craft that is an essential requirement in modern society. The Company has a leading role in supporting the Livery Companies Skills Council in celebrating career development by recognising excellence in achievement through the Apprentice, Journeyman and Master Certificates.

The Plumbers of London provide a key link for the trade and profession with links throughout the plumbing and heating engineering industry and wider associated organisations and companies. Our own Corporate Membership Scheme gives its members a unique networking environment to meet, foster and develop professional relationships. Every year, the Worshipful Company of Plumbers gives dozens of young trainees the leg up they need in their careers through bursaries, apprenticeships and awards. We're proud to have been supporting the industry for over 650 years.

The Worshipful Company of Plumbers is proud to be among the ancient Livery Companies in the City of London. Our initial Ordinances were granted by the Lord Mayor and the Aldermen in 1365 and ever since then we have strived to support the City of London and the Mayoralty. We take part in the Lord Mayor's show and in some years provide a float illustrating some aspect of plumbing. We also involve schoolchildren in the decoration of the float and have received tremendous support from the children at the Columbia Primary School in Tower Hamlets.

The charity part of the Company, the Plumbers Charity, strives to change lives for the better in everything we do. Our vision is to promote better plumbers better plumbing, better health and better lives. We do this by supporting plumbing education, training and development and the promotion of the 'craft of plumbing'. These children now have clean water and sanitation from Village by Village, a charity your donations are supporting. The present trustees are Past Master Charles Yuill (Chairman), Past Masters Steve Hodkinson and Robert Burgon, Assistants Charles Brooks and Janet Rivers, Past Steward Michael Cooper and Liverymen James Dalton and Jamie Fisher.

Bursaries provided by the company are for student plumbers who would benefit from financial assistance as a direct result of progressing from NVQ Level 2 MES (Plumbing) to undertake NVQ Level 3 MES (Plumbing). Students are encouraged to apply direct but must have a reference from their lecturer or employer. Professional bodies, training providers or employers are encouraged to support students who, in their opinion, meet the criteria and would therefore merit consideration as possible recipients of a Bursary.
