Hetherington Newman are the award-winning makers of bespoke furniture and architectural joinery. Due to sustained growth we are now looking for experienced kitchen Sales Designers to join our team. We are involved with the designing, making and installation of domestic rooms with fitted furniture and architectural joinery. All our projects are bespoke therefore we tailor our work to fit our clients' needs and tastes. Our clients expect a thoroughly professional approach with outstanding design solutions, products and service.

With a background in bespoke furniture and antique restoration, we are experienced in making individual pieces of any period in the widest variety of timbers. The restoration work has given us an unrivalled knowledge of period details and construction methods, and these key skills are equally important in the manufacture of contemporary designs. The design process is always the result of a collaboration between our designers and the clients, and we believe the results must reflect their taste, budget and the practical requirements.

Our work is based on close research of period details and, as a result, we make a wide range of panelling, from small panels suitable for a cottage to replicas of the large panels seen in many grand houses of the 17th and 18th centuries. Low-level, dado height panelling can be just as impressive as the tall version rising to the ceiling, and can make a small bathroom or study into something really special. It also works very well against the walls of staircases. Panels can be flat or raised and fielded, shaker style or with applied mouldings to the frames.

We still bring traditional cabinet making and the highest quality materials together to make our furniture and joinery. Modern machinery may take the labour out of basic processes, but it is the excellent skills of our work force that make our product unique - something all of us at Hetherington Newman take great pride in. Training programmes are constantly under way for apprentices and we are always looking to broaden our knowledge and raise our standards.

As with our other work, we have no standard approach - staircases are always designed to suit the scale and style of the house, the clients' taste and the budget. With many period houses having lost their original stairs, we are regularly employed to design and make replacements that are authentic in appearance. In addition, traditionally designed modern houses often require a staircase with a touch of period elegance. New build houses or those undergoing renovation offer the chance to create the perfect space for a staircase of the correct design and size, and we are able to advise at the planning stage on the ideal layout, depending on whether the stairs have straight handrails running between newels, or whether they have continuous Georgian style handrails with carved scroll ends.
