Following the lock down and as we all start to deal with the "New Normal", we are beginning to open up our workshops again. To begin with we will only be open to our clients and volunteers and will be completing a small back log of work. Please e-mail or phone prior to visiting.
MillRace is a furniture restoration co-operative that is funded by the income from pieces sold, work carried out, as well as donations and grants received. MillRace was set up in 1995 and works with adults who have mental health problems, providing a workshop where craft skills such as furniture repairs, wood turning, cabinet making and picture framing are taught and mastered. A number of MillRace's clients go on to obtain City and Guilds qualifications and the centre offers similar course for the general public.
Alongside offering a professional range of furniture services, the co-operative also undertakes to help people recovering from long term health problems. People are referred to us for work placement and progress to working alongside experienced cabinet makers and furniture makers. After a period of training, a nationally recognised City and Guilds qualification is achieved. At MillRace Furniture we offer a full repair and restoration service to all our customers. Every consideration is taken with regards to the age, quality, timber type and condition of the finish of all items.
Our small and friendly workshop is a well equipped place to learn. We are ideally situated in a pleasant riverside location, behind Moulsham Mill. An historic water mill, which contains a craft centre, cafe, and small businesses, all within short walking distance of Chelmsford City centre. There is ample on-site parking and spaces can be booked in advance. Courses can be tailored to your individual requirements and are offered to individuals, couples or small groups of up to 5 people. Tuition is given by our 2 fully experienced and qualified tutors, Mike and Paul, who will provide all course information (handouts etc), materials, and the advice needed to complete your projects.
