We understand the role of historic buildings in placemaking and forming the cornerstones of our towns and cities. There is much to enjoy, protect and conserve. Historic buildings face their own set of challenges, from access constraints, adaptive re-use and decay. As architects and interior designers, we can envisage new uses for historic buildings, create sensitive interventions and innovative solutions to these issues. We have experience of working on listed buildings and understand the complexity, care and consultation required to achieve exciting developments in these environments.

Our dedicated team of architects and designers are established within The Malt House on the picturesque Kennet and Avon Canal in the heart of the city of Bath. The Malt House is a great place to work and has proven itself adaptable to the changing demands placed on it over the last quarter of a century. It is also an excellent example to our clients of a successful adaptation of a historic building, with an enjoyable open plan studio space that inspires us to do our best. We work together from one studio which naturally encourages collaborative working, good communication and the opportunity to learn from one another, supported by a quality-assured system of work and the latest 3D design tools.

We believe in creating places in which people and communities can thrive. Our architectural and interior design team apply inventive solutions to a diverse range of residential ventures from large scale private residential developments, community regeneration projects, extra care housing and nursing homes, to educational teaching and accommodation facilities that enhance the student experience. As well as new build projects we have many successful examples of helping our clients modernise and adapt outdated buildings for greater flexibility, comfort and enjoyment.

Our architects and designers understand the critical issues for landlord or tenant led commercial ventures, applying imaginative solutions to both. Our robust portfolio of work in this area includes an array of projects from flagship headquarters to speculative office development and high-quality fit-outs. In a competitive market, commercial space must be marketable and space efficient. Our designs achieve both a high net to gross floor space whilst feeling welcoming and stylish. The quality and consistency of our service over the past 25 years has led to many of our clients returning to us to help with their next project.

Exciting opportunities are currently available working with our dedicated team of award-winning design professionals uniquely based on the banks of the picturesque Kennet and Avon Canal in the heart of the City of Bath. We are always looking for talented and motivated people to expand our team of architects, designers and technicians. We offer competitive salaries, flexible working, training benefits and an attractive studio setting. If you would like to work with us, please send your CV and portfolio to applications@dka.co.uk.
