W C Matthews & Son Ltd is a family owned, independent building company and is one of the oldest surviving family businesses in the area as the firm was established in 1880 and has been family run ever since. Mike Matthews, great grandson of the founder William Christopher Matthews, took over in 1973 having served his apprenticeship and worked in the business from the age of 15. His son Chris joined him as a young apprentice in 1997 so this is now the fifth generation of the family working in the business.
