M J Faint Ltd are located just outside Bath in Wiltshire's county town of Trowbridge. We are a family run business that can trace its beginnings, in and around Trowbridge/Bath, back to 1964. We are long time members of the Federation of Master Builders and pride ourselves on our standard of workmanship. We are experts in traditional and contemporary roofing methods. We have built up relationships with many local clients, including private individuals, builders and authorities throughout the South West and beyond.

Stone tiles are typically a local form of limestone found in the Cotswolds, the Purbeck district of Dorset and many areas of Somerset. A sandstone type can be found in parts of Caithness, Cumbria and Hereford. In the Bath area stone tiles are fairly common. The variation in stone is matched by the size, thickness, how the edges are finished/dressed too. Stone is extremely attractive, can be expensive and it requires experienced skills to lay. At M J Faint Roofing, we are extremely experienced in fitting such tiles and we are able to supply other local roofing contractors and stone suppliers with new project specific batten plans/stone quantity requirements, therefore eliminating waste and saving on costs.

Insulation is an integral part of many roof specifications and the variety of those available enable us to satisfy client's energy efficiency needs. From simple Top-up of existing through to complete insulation, U-Value calculations, specifications and fitting, M J Faint Roofers can advise on the best materials and their usage. Ventilation can be viewed as the other side of the coin where insulation and condensation considerations need to be taken into account. As with insulation, there are numerous ventilation options available and we at M J Faint Roofers will be happy to advise their specification and use.

Working with local authorities and historical trusts M J Faint have been involved in many restoration projects that have required sensitive and sympathetic roofing skills in order to fulfill the demands of a property that was built using ‘tradition' and in some cases antiquated techniques. Replacement roof timbers can be provided, following traditional methods and therefore retaining original features as closely as possible. Restoration of chimney stacks from raking out and repointing to complete rebuilds can be undertaken.

Throughout its history M J Faint Roofing has carried out many lead work projects. From simple cover flashings through to chimney flashings, flat roofs, parapet gutters and bespoke roof designs, our craftsmen have installed many tonnes of lead to roofs throughout our region and beyond. We pride ourselves on our commitment to producing quality lead-work that follows the Lead Development Associations recommendations. Having built up an enviable reputation in all aspects of lead work, this has led to us being invited to work further afield, leaving our mark on roofs in London, Southampton and Birmingham to name but a few.

Over the past week M J Faint Ltd have been working on a plain tiled roof. While on site the chimney stack was raked out and re-pointed as well as having new code-4 lead step and apron flashings. The existing plain tiles were sorted, graded and then used on the front and side elevations to keep house.

Due to Covid-19 the year so far has been very different, a challenge to many people and businesses. Once again M J Faint Ltd would like to thank all NHS staff and key workers for their continued efforts during the pandemic. 2020 is actually the 40th anniversary of M J Faint Limited being founded and we never thought that, at the start of the year it would be so much different to any other! Being a local company we have always had a strong sense of community. With that in mind we have decided to.

We have recently been working on a chimney rebuild. You can see that the original Bath stone was in a pretty poor condition. New stack closely followed original dimensions and design. The addition of chimney pots and bird guards finished off the project. Below are a few photos of before and after.
