To prove whether or not a material contains asbestos, it has to be analysed by laboratory accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS). Asbestos testing using Polarised Light Microscopy (PLM) is the most common method used. All non-domestic buildings must have an asbestos assessment or survey and a management plan if asbestos is identified. Asbestos can be found almost anywhere and sometimes in the most unlikely places: from a stately home to a factory or from your own home to a hospital.

We were established in 2001 under the name of Peterborough Asbestos Surveying Services Ltd. We became PASS (UK) Ltd in 2003 and located to Litton House in Peterborough. This central location enables us to easily undertake work within all areas of the country. In September 2017 we relocated to Unit 12 Winterbeck Industrial Estate, Orston Lane, Bottesford, Nottingham, NG13 0AU. We are still undertaking works in the Peterborough area and other areas as before. Our surveyors hold a minimum of the BIOHS P402 (Building Surveys and Bulk Sampling for Asbestos).

The purpose of the management survey is to locate asbestos-containing materials (ACM's) and identify any potential for their disturbance/damage during the normal occupation and use of your premises/buildings. The duty-holder can undertake a management survey where the premises are simple and straightforward. Otherwise, a surveyor is needed. The Survey, as far as reasonably practicable, will locate any ACM's that could be damaged or disturbed during normal activities, foreseeable maintenance work or by new equipment installations.

I've just seen this amusing but very scary video! It's incredible to think that asbestos was still being used even when there was strong evidence of its danger. https:// lnkd.in/dzZamyNhttps:// www.mesothelioma help.org/ asbestos/ history/

Where might you find hidden asbestos? These pictures taken from a recent demolition survey show (top photo) asbestos roof sheets above the ceiling board and insulation, the sheets were encapsulated on the outside with a bitumen/ asphalt and so were not visible at all and (botom photo) wall lining.
