We were contracted to re-roof Tockington Manor School and re-use the existing slates. Prior to the work, the roof had no felt and many of the slates had sipped. It now benefits from a quality, breathable membrane together with additional insulation throughout the entire loft area. Leadwork is one of our specialities. It's a craft that not all roofers are able to conquer and can look ugly when it's not well executed. Lead is, without doubt, a valuable weather protection for many traditional roofs and has been used for centuries as a building material with a long life span. It's extremely malleable and soft, making it perfect for moulding to fit the complicated shapes of some roofs. When used properly and applied skillfully, the results can last for 100 years! In addition to looking good, this is a great cost saving exercise.

Installing or repairing flat roofs demands a slightly different skill set to pitched roofing. As a result, not all general roofers are able to competently tackle a flat roof. At Sage Roofing South West, we have flat roof specialists who are extremely experienced in this field and have been providing a quality and professional service for many years. Flat roofs or low pitched roofs generally have a limited life span. They are notorious for leaks and degradation over time, especially in extreme weather conditions.

Occasionally, there may be more than one answer to the problem and it may be possible to provide a ‘quick fix' or something more longer term.

The client for this project ideally wanted natural slates on the roof, however, due to the low pitched sections, this was not possible. The architect suggested using Cambrian slates instead, which, we agreed, was the perfect choice. The Cambrian slate tile is made from over 60% Welsh slate and has the beauty and character of natural slate. However, unlike natural slate, it is suitable for pitches as low as 15 degrees.
