Woodworm- active or dormant? Quite often homeowners will notice some woodworm in floorboards when they are having some other work done in the house e.g. when plumbers or electricians have to lift up flooring to fit pipes or wiring. If the woodworm is active it may require treatment with a preservative but if there is no current sign of activity then there is often no need to carry out any preservative treatment although any decayed timbers may have to be replaced. At Forest Dampbusters we offer free advice and surveys whereby we will inspect any suspected outbreak of woodworm and advise whether any treatments are required.
All damp-proofing and timber treatment works undertaken by FOREST DAMPBUSTERS receive an insured guarantee. This is a guarantee for the property and if the house is sold then the benefit of the guarantee is automatically transferred to the new owner and are accepted by all Banks and Building Societies for mortgage purposes. Our guarantees are insured by Construction Guarantee Services who are an authorised insurance agency regulated by the F.C.A.( Financial Conduct Authority) and are one of the only real insured guarantee available today which offers cover against the recurrence of rising damp, woodworm and wet or dry rot.
A lot of the housing stock in the Forest of Dean & Wye Valley is constructed with solid walls (either stone or brick) and therefore it is not possible to install any cavity wall insulation and therefore it was very difficult to save heat loss through walls. With gas and electric prices seemingly immune to deflation in the recession, Forest Dampbusters have found that many of our customers are concerned about constantly rising energy prices and many now insulate their houses. After having insulated lofts, installed double glazing etc many were at loss at what to do with walls.
Older properties in the Forest of Dean are often built of stone and did not have a damp-proof course installed at the time of construction and this can lead to rising damp internally. We can install a range of damp-proof courses such as siliconate aqueous or injection cream d.p.c's or apply chemical free treatments such as electro-osmosis systems, physical damp-proof courses or excavate French Drains. Many older properties in the Forest of Dean are affected by woodworm, wet rot or dry rot. But don't worry too much as these are not often as serious as some companies lead you to believe and these problems can be solved fairly easily without tearing your house down.
Damp-proofing is often required in older properties in the Forest of Dean as they may have been built without a physical damp-proof course (such as in stone built cottages etc) or the existing damp-proof course has failed. Forest Dampbusters use a variety of different methods to combat rising damp but the most popular with our clients in the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley is to pressure inject a chemical damp-proofing solution into brickwork or masonry. This damp-proofing fluid is intended to cure across the thickness of the wall and form a barrier and restrict the upward passage of moisture.
