Britannia Preservation was established in 1986. We provide long-term solutions for problems with damp and timber decay. Although we started small, we now employ a team of more than 12 tradesmen, who receive rigorous ongoing training so that they are the very best in their field. Property Care Association - Britannia Preservation hold full membership of the Property Care Association; the premier trade body for structural waterproofing, wood preservation, damp proofing and flooding remedial works.
Britannia Preservation are primarily specialists in the investigation and treatment of rising damp, penetrating damp, condensation, damage caused by plumbing leaks and flooding, wet rot and dry rot decay, woodworm infestation, below ground waterproofing and tanking of basements and cellars. Remedial works often involve plastering and joinery, but other trades such as plumbing, electrics, ground works, and general building activities are often required as projects progress. For practical reasons, Britannia Preservation's skilled workforce will often undertake general building and ancillary works to provide an enhanced service to our clients.
We offer some of the most comprehensive guarantees on the work we undertake here at Britannia Preservation. For example, 20-year guarantees for damp proof courses and timber treatment works and10-year guarantees for basement tanking and waterproofing. In addition, as full members of the Property Care Association, Britannia Preservation offers GPI insurance backed guarantees. Our business has been operating for more than 25 years. During this time we have issued many thousands of guarantees and have a long and enviable record of customer service.
Rising damp occurs when ground water soaks into a wall which then migrates steadily upwards. Worried house owners often notice damp stained walls or deterioration of the internal decorations and plasterwork. The distinct water stains on the base of this wall is a well recognised characteristic of rising damp. The plaster has been extended down and rests on a concrete floor, which can bridge the damp proof course. Had the builders left a small gap between the plasterwork and the floor, our services would not have been needed.
The Property Care Association (PCA) was formerly part of the British Wood Preserving and Damp-proofing Association. It is the trade organisation representing specialists involved in damp proofing, timber preservation, structural maintenance, and flood remediation in the UK. The PCA provides advice to consumers and training to both PCA and non-PCA members. In addition, the PCA administers the surveying qualifications of CSRT and CSSW. Britannia Preservation is a full member of the PCA having met the stringent entry criteria that requires organisations to comply with a strict code of conduct and to meet standards of excellence in all areas of their practices and work.
We know that our team members are only as good as their training, so we invest very heavily in their professional development, with ongoing training an essential part of their lives. Our surveyors are skilled, technically trained, and hold building surveying degrees, with continuous professional development this means that you always receive superior service and advice. We employ skilled technicians, each with an individual trade and specialism. We systematically train all staff on health and safety practices, so they are kept up to date on the latest advice and training from HSE.
We are specialists for damp, timber decay, and waterproofing of basements and cellars. So, if you have a problem with rising damp, penetrating damp, condensation, flooding, wet rot decay, dry rot decay, or woodworm, we can help you. We do this by carrying out a thorough survey, providing you with a detailed report of our findings, and telling you the solution to your problem. Although damp and timber defects can be complicated, we will not blind you with science. We will explain our findings as simply as possible and draw up a program of works, if necessary, that will specifically suit your needs.
You might think that your property has a problem with damp but this is not always the case. The fact is there are many causes of damp; however, rising damp has probably been the most controversial over the years, with some critics suggesting it does not exist. Unfortunately, our team at Britannia Preservation has dealt with many cases of pervasive damp which cannot be attributed to anything other than rising damp! However, rising damp is not the cause of dampness in every case. We have seen some cases where walls that look damp actually have no dampness present.
