From a beloved family piece or a little something you found at an auction or second-hand shop, not always is a piece of furniture looking or working at its best. Most times it is because of natural wear and tear of everyday use, sometimes due to accidents around the house or in worst cases damaged from thieves looking into locked areas. Just because it may not look much doesn't mean that you have to take it to the skip.
