For over 133 years Colinton Furniture, previously Craighouse Cabinet Works, has been making exquisite handcrafted furniture for the drawing rooms, board rooms and studies of Scotland's most prestigious addresses. At one time, all furniture was made by hand using the talents and traditional skills of a time-served cabinet-maker. During the 1950s mass production took hold and consumers wanted quicker, cheaper products. Everything from coffee tables to kettles became part of a more throwaway culture. Today we are seeing a reversal in that trend.

There are two wonderful things about purpose-built bookcases. They can be built into almost any space. From the length of a complete wall, to utilising smaller areas such as over the front door, or under a bay window (makes a fabulous seating area/bookshelf). Not forgetting of course, that you can set the shelf heights exactly. Colinton Furniture evolved from Craighouse Cabinet Works which began making handcrafted and bespoke furniture in 1883 for the good people of Scotland and beyond. In the libraries, studies and reception rooms of some of the country's most prestigious private addresses, and long-standing businesses, you'll find examples of our work in every wood imaginable. Commissioning a piece of bespoke furniture is a wonderful experience to be enjoyed from initial idea-sharing right through to final unveiling.

Glass is another useful and versatile material we use in our workshop. It can be cut to almost any shape, can be tinted any colour and supplied with a variety of textured finishes. Why incorporate glass in your design? It is easy to clean and cut, can be reinforced and really lends itself to a contemporary look and feel. From inlays in desks, to reception panels, glass cabinets and display units, our design team can advise you on precision cuts or innovative designs incorporating glass.
